Be Imitators of God

1 Therefore ^G3767 be imitators ^G3402 of God ^G2316, as beloved ^G27 children ^G5043,

2 and walk ^G4043 in love ^G26, just ^G2531 as Christ ^G5547 also ^G2532 loved ^G25 [fn]us and gave ^G3860 Himself ^G1438 up ^G3860 for us, an offering ^G4376 and a sacrifice ^G2378 to God ^G2316 [fn]as a fragrant ^G2175 aroma ^G3744.

3 But sexual ^G4202 immorality ^G4202 [fn]or ^G2532 any ^G3956 impurity ^G167 or ^G2228 greed ^G4124 must not even ^G3366 be named ^G3687 among ^G1722 you, as is proper ^G4241 among [fn]saints ^G40; 4 nor filthiness ^G151 and foolish ^G3473 talk ^G3473, or ^G2228 coarse ^G2160 jesting ^G2160, which ^G3739 are not fitting ^G433, but rather ^G3123 giving ^G2169 of ^G2169 thanks ^G2169. 5 For this ^G3778 you know ^G6063 with certainty ^G1097, that no one ^G3756 G3956 sexually immoral ^G4205 or ^G2228 impure ^G169 or ^G2228 greedy ^G4123, who ^G3739 is an idolater ^G1496, has ^G2192 an inheritance ^G2817 in the kingdom ^G932 of Christ ^G5547 and God ^G2316.

6 Let no ^G3367 one ^G3367 deceive ^G538 you with empty ^G2756 words ^G3056, for because ^G1223 of these ^G3778 things ^G3778 the wrath ^G3709 of God ^G2316 comes ^G2064 upon the sons ^G5207 of disobedience ^G543. 7 Therefore ^G3767 do not be partakers ^G4830 with them, 8 for you were formerly ^G4218 darkness ^G4655, but now ^G3568 you are light ^G5457 in the Lord ^G2962; walk ^G4043 as children ^G5043 of light ^G5457 9 (for the fruit ^G2590 of that light ^G5457 consists in all ^G3956 goodness ^G19 and righteousness ^G1343 and truth ^G225), 10 [fn]trying ^G1381 to ^G1381 learn ^G1381 what ^G5101 is pleasing ^G2101 to the Lord ^G2962. 11 And do not participate ^G4790 in the unfruitful ^G175 works ^G2041 of darkness ^G4655, but instead ^G3123 even ^G2532 [fn]expose ^G1651 them. 12 For it is disgraceful ^G150 even ^G2532 to speak ^G3004 of the things which are done ^G1096 by them in ^G2931 secret ^G2931. 13 But all ^G3956 things ^G3956 become ^G5319 visible ^G5319 when they are [fn]exposed ^G1651 by the light ^G5457, for everything ^G3956 that becomes ^G5319 visible ^G5319 is light ^G5457. 14 For this ^G1352 reason ^G1352 [fn]it says ^G3004,

“Awake ^G1453, sleeper ^G2518,

And arise ^G450 from the dead ^G3498,

And Christ ^G5547 will shine ^G2017 on ^G2017 you.”

15 Therefore ^G3767 look ^G991 carefully ^G199 how ^G4459 you walk ^G4043, not as unwise ^G781 but as wise ^G4680, 16 redeeming ^G1805 the time ^G2540, because ^G3754 the days ^G2250 are evil ^G4190. 17 On account of this ^G1223 G3778, do not be foolish ^G878, but understand ^G4920 what ^G5101 the will ^G2307 of the Lord ^G2962 is. 18 And do not get ^G3182 drunk ^G3182 with wine ^G3631, [fn]for that is dissipation ^G810, but be filled ^G4137 with the Spirit ^G4151, 19 speaking ^G2980 to [fn]one ^G1438 another ^G1438 in psalms ^G5568 and hymns ^G5215 and spiritual ^G4152 songs ^G5603, singing ^G103 and making ^G5567 melody ^G5567 with your heart ^G2588 to the Lord ^G2962; 20 always ^G3842 giving ^G2168 thanks ^G2168 for all ^G3956 things ^G3956 in the name ^G3686 of our Lord ^G2962 Jesus ^G2424 Christ ^G5547 to [fn]God ^G2316, even ^G2532 the Father ^G3962; 21 [fn]and being subject ^G5293 to one ^G240 another ^G240 in the [fn]fear ^G5401 of Christ ^G5547.

Wives and Husbands

22 Wives ^G1135, be subject to your own ^G2398 husbands ^G435, as to the Lord ^G2962.

23 For the husband ^G435 is the head ^G2776 of the wife ^G1135, as Christ ^G5547 also ^G2532 is the head ^G2776 of the church ^G1577, He Himself ^G846 being the Savior ^G4990 of the body ^G4983. 24 But as the church ^G1577 is subject ^G5293 to Christ ^G5547, so ^G3779 also ^G2532 the wives ^G1135 ought to be to their husbands ^G435 in everything ^G3956.

25 Husbands ^G435, love ^G25 your wives ^G1135, just ^G2531 as Christ ^G5547 also ^G2532 loved ^G25 the church ^G1577 and gave ^G3860 Himself ^G1438 up ^G3860 for her, 26 so ^G2443 that He might sanctify ^G37 her, having cleansed ^G2511 her by the washing ^G3067 of water ^G5204 with the word ^G4487, 27 that He might present ^G3936 to Himself ^G1438 the church ^G1577 [fn]in all ^G1741 her glory ^G1741, having ^G2192 no ^G3361 spot ^G4696 or ^G2228 wrinkle ^G4512 or ^G2228 any ^G5100 such ^G5108 thing ^G5108, but that she would be holy ^G40 and blameless ^G299. 28 So ^G3779 husbands ^G435 ought ^G3784 also ^G2532 to love ^G25 their own ^G1438 wives ^G1135 as their own ^G1438 bodies ^G4983. He who loves ^G25 his own ^G1438 wife ^G1135 loves ^G25 himself ^G1438; 29 for no ^G3762 one ^G3762 ever ^G4218 hated ^G3404 his own ^G1438 flesh ^G4561, but nourishes ^G1625 and cherishes ^G2282 it, just ^G2531 as Christ ^G5547 also ^G2532 does the church ^G1577, 30 because ^G3754 we are members ^G3196 of His body ^G4983. 31 FOR THIS ^G3778 REASON ^G473 A MAN ^G444 SHALL LEAVE ^G2641 HIS FATHER ^G3962 AND MOTHER ^G3384 AND BE JOINED ^G4347 TO HIS WIFE ^G1135, AND THE TWO ^G1417 SHALL BECOME ^G1510 G1519 ONE ^G1520 FLESH ^G4561. 32 This ^G3778 mystery ^G3466 is great ^G3173, but I am speaking ^G3004 with reference ^G1519 to Christ ^G5547 and the church ^G1577. 33 Nevertheless ^G4133, each ^G1538 individual ^G1520 among you also ^G2532 is to love ^G25 his own ^G1438 wife ^G1135 even as himself ^G1438, and the wife ^G1135 must see to it that she [fn]respects ^G5399 her husband ^G435.
