Days of Punishment Have Come

1 Do not be glad ^H8055, O Israel ^H3478, [fn]with rejoicing ^H1524 like the peoples ^H5971!

For you have played ^H2181 the ^H2181 harlot ^H2181, [fn]forsaking ^H4480 H5921 your God ^H430.

You have loved ^H157 harlots’ earnings ^H868 on [fn]every ^H3605 threshing ^H1637 floor ^H1637.

2 Threshing ^H1637 floor ^H1637 and wine ^H3342 press ^H3342 will not feed ^H7462 them,

And the new ^H8492 wine ^H8492 will deceive ^H3584 [fn]them.

3 They will not remain ^H3427 in the land ^H776 of Yahweh ^H3068,

But Ephraim ^H669 will return ^H7725 to Egypt ^H4714,

And in Assyria ^H804 they will eat ^H398 unclean ^H2931 food.

4 They will not pour ^H5258 out ^H5258 drink ^H5258 offerings ^H5258 of wine ^H3196 to Yahweh ^H3068;

Their sacrifices ^H2077 will not please ^H6149 Him.

Their bread will [fn]be like [fn]mourners’ ^H205 bread ^H3899;

All ^H3605 who eat ^H398 of it will be defiled ^H2930,

For their bread ^H3899 will be for [fn]themselves ^H5315 alone;

It will not enter ^H935 the house ^H1004 of Yahweh ^H3068.

5 What ^H4100 will you do ^H6213 on the day ^H3117 of the appointed ^H4150 festival ^H4150

And on the day ^H3117 of the feast ^H2282 of Yahweh ^H3068?

6 For behold ^H2009, they will go ^H1980 because ^H4480 of destruction ^H7701;

Egypt ^H4714 will gather ^H6908 them up; Memphis ^H4644 will bury ^H6912 them.

Weeds ^H7057 will possess ^H3423 their desirable ^H4261 items ^H4261 of silver ^H3701;

Thorns ^H2336 will be in their tents ^H168.

7 The days ^H3117 of punishment ^H6486 have come ^H935;

The days ^H3117 of recompense ^H7966 have come ^H935;

[fn]Let Israel ^H3478 know ^H3045 this!

The prophet ^H5030 is an ignorant ^H191 fool ^H191,

The [fn]inspired ^H7307 man ^H376 has madness ^H7696,

Because ^H5921 of the abundance ^H7230 of your iniquity ^H5771

And there is only hostility ^H4895 in the house ^H1004 of his God ^H430.

9 They have dug ^H6009 deep ^H6009 [fn]in corruption ^H7843

As in the days ^H3117 of Gibeah ^H1390;

He will remember ^H2142 their iniquity ^H5771;

He will punish ^H6485 their sins ^H2403.

Grapes in the Wilderness

10 I found ^H4672 Israel ^H3478 like grapes ^H6025 in the wilderness ^H4057;

I saw ^H7200 your fathers ^H1 as the earliest ^H1063 fruit ^H1063 on the fig ^H8384 tree ^H8384 in its first ^H7225 season.

But they came ^H935 to Baal-peor ^H1187 and devoted ^H5144 themselves to [fn]shame ^H1322,

And they became ^H1961 as detestable ^H8251 as that which ^H159 they loved ^H157.

11 As for Ephraim ^H669, their glory ^H3519 will fly ^H5774 away ^H5774 like a bird ^H5775—

No ^H4480 birth ^H3205, no ^H4480 pregnancy ^H990, and no ^H4480 conception ^H2032!

12 Though ^H3588 H518 they bring ^H1431 up ^H1431 their children ^H1121,

Yet I will bereave ^H7921 them [fn]until not a man ^H120 is left.

Surely ^H3588, woe ^H188 to them indeed ^H1571 when I depart ^H5493 from them!

13 Ephraim ^H669, as I have seen ^H7200,

Is planted ^H8362 in a pasture ^H5116 like Tyre ^H6865;

But Ephraim ^H669 will bring ^H3318 out ^H3318 his children ^H1121 for killing ^H2026.

14 Give ^H5414 them, O Yahweh ^H3068—what ^H4100 will You give ^H5414?

Give ^H5414 them a [fn]miscarrying ^H7921 womb ^H7358 and dry ^H6784 breasts ^H7699.

15 All ^H3605 their evil ^H7451 is at Gilgal ^H1537;

Indeed ^H3588, I came to hate ^H8130 them there ^H8033!

Because ^H5921 of the evil ^H7455 of their deeds ^H4611

I will drive ^H1644 them out ^H1644 of My house ^H1004!

I will love ^H157 them no ^H3808 more ^H3254;

I will put ^H4191 to ^H4191 death ^H4191 the desirable ^H4261 ones ^H4261 of their womb ^H990.

17 My God ^H430 will despise ^H3988 them

Because ^H3588 they have not listened ^H8085 to Him;

And they will be those who flee ^H5074 among the nations ^H1471.
