The Words of Yahweh Against Judah

1 In the beginning ^H7225 of the reign ^H4468 of Jehoiakim ^H3079 the son ^H1121 of Josiah ^H2977, king ^H4428 of Judah ^H3063, this ^H2088 word ^H1697 came ^H1961 from Yahweh ^H3068, saying ^H559,

2 “Thus ^H3541 says ^H559 Yahweh ^H3068, ‘Stand ^H5975 in the court ^H2691 of the house ^H1004 of Yahweh ^H3068, and you shall speak ^H1696 to all ^H3605 the cities ^H5892 of Judah ^H3063 who have come ^H935 to worship ^H2331 in the house ^H1004 of Yahweh ^H3068 all ^H3605 the words ^H1697 that I have commanded ^H6680 you to speak ^H1696 to them. Do not take ^H1639 away ^H1639 a word ^H1697! 3 Perhaps ^H194 they will listen ^H8085 and everyone ^H376 will turn ^H7725 from his evil ^H7451 way ^H1870, that I may [fn]relent ^H5162 of the evil ^H7451 which ^H834 I am devising ^H2803 to [fn]bring ^H6213 against them because ^H4480 H6440 of the evil ^H7455 of their deeds ^H4611.’ 4 And you will say ^H559 to them, ‘Thus ^H3541 says ^H559 Yahweh ^H3068, “If ^H518 you will not listen ^H8085 to Me, to walk ^H1980 in My law ^H8451 which ^H834 I have given ^H5414 before ^H6440 you, 5 to listen ^H8085 to the words ^H1697 of My slaves ^H5650 the prophets ^H5030, whom ^H834 I have been sending ^H7971 to you, rising ^H7925 up ^H7925 early ^H7925 and sending ^H7971, but you have not listened ^H8085, 6 then I will make ^H5414 this ^H2088 house ^H1004 like Shiloh ^H7887, and this ^H2088 city ^H5892 I will make ^H5414 a curse ^H7045 to all ^H3605 the nations ^H1471 of the earth ^H776.”’”

Plot to Murder Jeremiah

7 The priests ^H3548 and the prophets ^H5030 and all ^H3605 the people ^H5971 heard ^H8085 Jeremiah ^H3414 speaking ^H1696 these ^H428 words ^H1697 in the house ^H1004 of Yahweh ^H3068.

8 Now it happened that when Jeremiah ^H3414 finished ^H3615 speaking ^H1696 all ^H3605 that Yahweh ^H3068 had commanded ^H6680 him to speak ^H1696 to all ^H3605 the people ^H5971, the priests ^H3548 and the prophets ^H5030 and all ^H3605 the people ^H5971 seized ^H8610 him, saying ^H559, “You must surely ^H4191 die ^H4191! 9 Why ^H4069 have you prophesied ^H5012 in the name ^H8034 of Yahweh ^H3068 saying ^H559, ‘This ^H2088 house ^H1004 will be like Shiloh ^H7887, and this ^H2088 city ^H5892 will be laid ^H2717 waste ^H2717, without ^H369 inhabitant ^H3427’?” And all ^H3605 the people ^H5971 gathered ^H6950 about ^H413 Jeremiah ^H3414 in the house ^H1004 of Yahweh ^H3068.

10 When the officials ^H8269 of Judah ^H3063 heard ^H8085 these ^H428 things ^H1697, they came ^H5927 up ^H5927 from the king’s ^H4428 house ^H1004 to the house ^H1004 of Yahweh ^H3068 and sat ^H3427 in the entrance ^H6607 of the New ^H2319 Gate ^H8179 of the house of Yahweh ^H3068. 11 Then the priests ^H3548 and the prophets ^H5030 spoke ^H559 to the officials ^H8269 and to all ^H3605 the people ^H5971, saying ^H559, “A judgment ^H4941 of death ^H4194 for this ^H2088 man ^H376! For he has prophesied ^H5012 against ^H413 this ^H2088 city ^H5892 as you have heard ^H8085 in your hearing ^H241.”

12 Then Jeremiah ^H3414 spoke ^H559 to all ^H3605 the officials ^H8269 and to all ^H3605 the people ^H5971, saying ^H559, “Yahweh ^H3068 sent ^H7971 me to prophesy ^H5012 against ^H413 this ^H2088 house ^H1004 and against ^H413 this ^H2088 city ^H5892 all ^H3605 the words ^H1697 that you have heard ^H8085. 13 So now ^H6258, make ^H3190 good ^H3190 your ways ^H1870 and your deeds ^H4611 and listen ^H8085 to the voice ^H6963 of Yahweh ^H3068 your God ^H430; and Yahweh ^H3068 will [fn]relent ^H5162 of the evil ^H7451 demise which ^H834 He has spoken ^H1696 against ^H5921 you. 14 But as for me, behold ^H2009, I am in your hands ^H3027; do ^H6213 with me as is good ^H2896 and right ^H3477 in your eyes ^H5869. 15 Only ^H389 know ^H3045 for ^H3045 certain ^H3045 that if ^H518 you put ^H4191 me to ^H4191 death ^H4191, you will bring ^H5414 innocent ^H5355 blood ^H1818 on yourselves and on this ^H2088 city ^H5892 and on its inhabitants ^H3427; for truly ^H571 Yahweh ^H3068 has sent ^H7971 me to you to speak ^H1696 all ^H3605 these ^H428 words ^H1697 in your hearing ^H241.”

Jeremiah Spared from Death

16 Then the officials ^H8269 and all ^H3605 the people ^H5971 said ^H559 to the priests ^H3548 and to the prophets ^H5030, “No ^H369 judgment ^H4941 of death ^H4194 for this ^H2088 man ^H376! For he has spoken ^H1696 to us in the name ^H8034 of Yahweh ^H3068 our God ^H430.”

17 Then some ^H376 of the elders ^H2205 of the land ^H776 rose ^H6965 up ^H6965 and spoke ^H559 to all ^H3605 the assembly ^H6951 of the people ^H5971, saying ^H559, 18 “[fn]Micah ^H4318 of Moresheth ^H4183 prophesied ^H5012 in the days ^H3117 of Hezekiah ^H2396 king ^H4428 of Judah ^H3063; and he spoke ^H559 to all ^H3605 the people ^H5971 of Judah ^H3063, saying ^H559, ‘Thus ^H3541 Yahweh ^H3068 of hosts ^H6635 has said ^H559,

“Zion ^H6726 will be plowed ^H2790 as a field ^H7704,

And Jerusalem ^H3389 will become ^H1961 a heap ^H5856 of ^H5856 ruins ^H5856,

And the mountain ^H2022 of the house ^H1004 will become [fn]the high ^H1116 places ^H1116 of a forest ^H3293.”’

19 Did Hezekiah ^H2396 king ^H4428 of Judah ^H3063 and all ^H3605 Judah ^H3063 put ^H4191 him to ^H4191 death ^H4191? Did he not fear ^H3372 Yahweh ^H3068 and entreat ^H2470 the favor ^H6440 of Yahweh ^H3068, and Yahweh ^H3068 [fn]relented ^H5162 of ^H413 the evil ^H7451 demise which ^H834 He had spoken ^H1696 against ^H5921 them? But we are committing ^H6213 a great ^H1419 evil ^H7451 against ^H5921 ourselves ^H5315.”

20 Indeed ^H1571, there was also ^H1571 a man ^H376 who prophesied ^H5012 in the name ^H8034 of Yahweh ^H3068, Uriah ^H223 the son ^H1121 of Shemaiah ^H8098 from Kiriath-jearim ^H7157; and he prophesied ^H5012 against ^H5921 this ^H2088 city ^H5892 and against ^H5921 this ^H2088 land ^H776 words ^H1697 similar to all ^H3605 those of Jeremiah ^H3414. 21 And King ^H4428 Jehoiakim ^H3079 and all ^H3605 his mighty ^H1368 men ^H1368 and all ^H3605 the officials ^H8269 heard ^H8085 his words ^H1697. So the king ^H4428 sought ^H1245 to put ^H4191 him to ^H4191 death ^H4191; but Uriah ^H223 heard ^H8085 it, and he was ^H3372 afraid ^H3372 and fled ^H1272 and went ^H935 to Egypt ^H4714. 22 Then King ^H4428 Jehoiakim ^H3079 sent ^H7971 men ^H376 to Egypt ^H4714: Elnathan ^H494 the son ^H1121 of Achbor ^H5907 and certain men ^H376 with him went into Egypt ^H4714. 23 And they brought ^H3318 Uriah ^H223 out ^H3318 from Egypt ^H4714 and led ^H935 him to King ^H4428 Jehoiakim ^H3079, who struck ^H5221 him down ^H5221 with a sword ^H2719 and cast ^H7993 his dead ^H5038 body ^H5038 into the [fn]burial ^H6913 place ^H6913 of the [fn]common ^H1121 people ^H5971.

24 But the hand ^H3027 of Ahikam ^H296 the son ^H1121 of Shaphan ^H8227 was with Jeremiah ^H3414, so that he was not given ^H5414 into the hands ^H3027 of the people ^H5971 to put ^H4191 him to ^H4191 death ^H4191.
