Manasseh’s Inheritance

1 And this was the lot ^H1486 for the tribe ^H4294 of Manasseh ^H4519, for he was the firstborn ^H1060 of Joseph ^H3130. To Machir ^H4353 the firstborn ^H1060 of Manasseh ^H4519, the father ^H1 of Gilead ^H1568, [fn]were allotted ^H1961 Gilead ^H1568 and Bashan ^H1316, because ^H3588 he was a man ^H376 of war ^H4421.

2 So the lot was made for the rest ^H3498 of the sons ^H1121 of Manasseh ^H4519 according to their families ^H4940: for the sons ^H1121 of Abiezer ^H44 and for the sons ^H1121 of Helek ^H2507 and for the sons ^H1121 of Asriel ^H844 and for the sons ^H1121 of Shechem ^H7928 and for the sons ^H1121 of Hepher ^H2660 and for the sons ^H1121 of Shemida ^H8061; these ^H428 were the sons ^H1121 of Manasseh ^H4519 the son ^H1121 of Joseph ^H3130, the males ^H2145 according to their families ^H4940.

3 However, Zelophehad ^H6765, the son ^H1121 of Hepher ^H2660, the son ^H1121 of Gilead ^H1568, the son ^H1121 of Machir ^H4353, the son ^H1121 of Manasseh ^H4519, had ^H1961 no ^H3808 sons ^H1121, only ^H3588 H518 daughters ^H1323; and these ^H428 are the names ^H8034 of his daughters ^H1323: Mahlah ^H4244 and Noah ^H5270, Hoglah ^H2295, Milcah ^H4435 and Tirzah ^H8656. 4 And they came ^H7126 near ^H7126 before ^H6440 Eleazar ^H499 the priest ^H3548 and before ^H6440 Joshua ^H3091 the son ^H1121 of Nun ^H5126 and before ^H6440 the leaders ^H5387, saying ^H559, “Yahweh ^H3068 commanded ^H6680 Moses ^H4872 to give ^H5414 us an inheritance ^H5159 among ^H8432 our brothers ^H251.” So according ^H413 to ^H413 the [fn]word ^H6310 of Yahweh ^H3068 he gave ^H5414 them an inheritance ^H5159 among ^H8432 their father’s ^H1 brothers ^H251. 5 Thus there fell ^H5307 ten ^H6235 portions ^H2256 to Manasseh ^H4519, besides ^H905 H4480 the land ^H776 of Gilead ^H1568 and Bashan ^H1316, which ^H834 is beyond ^H4480 H5676 the Jordan ^H3383, 6 because ^H3588 the daughters ^H1323 of Manasseh ^H4519 received ^H5157 an inheritance ^H5159 among ^H8432 his sons ^H1121. And the land ^H776 of Gilead ^H1568 belonged ^H1961 to the rest ^H3498 of the sons ^H1121 of Manasseh ^H4519.

7 And the border ^H1366 of Manasseh ^H4519 [fn]ran ^H1961 from Asher ^H836 to Michmethath ^H4366 which ^H834 was east ^H5921 H6440 of Shechem ^H7927; then the border ^H1366 went ^H1980 [fn]southward ^H3225 to the inhabitants ^H3427 of En-tappuah ^H5887. 8 The land ^H776 of Tappuah ^H8599 belonged ^H1961 to Manasseh ^H4519, but Tappuah ^H8599 on the border ^H1366 of Manasseh ^H4519 belonged to the sons ^H1121 of Ephraim ^H669. 9 And the border ^H1366 went ^H3381 down ^H3381 to the [fn]brook ^H5158 of Kanah ^H7071, southward ^H5045 of the [fn]brook ^H5158 (these ^H428 cities ^H5892 belonged to Ephraim ^H669 among ^H8432 the cities ^H5892 of Manasseh ^H4519), and the border ^H1366 of Manasseh ^H4519 was on the north ^H6828 side ^H6828 of the [fn]brook ^H5158, and [fn]it ended ^H1961 H8444 at the sea ^H3220. 10 The south ^H5045 side ^H5045 belonged to Ephraim ^H669 and the north ^H6828 side ^H6828 to Manasseh ^H4519, and the sea ^H3220 was [fn]their border ^H1366; and they reached ^H6293 to Asher ^H836 on the north ^H6828 and to Issachar ^H3485 on the east ^H4217. 11 And in Issachar ^H3485 and in Asher ^H836, Manasseh ^H4519 had ^H1961 Beth-shean ^H1052 and its towns ^H1323, and Ibleam ^H2991 and its towns ^H1323, and the inhabitants ^H3427 of Dor ^H1756 and its towns ^H1323, and the inhabitants ^H3427 of En-dor ^H5874 and its towns ^H1323, and the inhabitants ^H3427 of Taanach ^H8590 and its towns ^H1323, and the inhabitants ^H3427 of Megiddo ^H4023 and its towns ^H1323, the third ^H7969 is Napheth ^H5316. 12 But the sons ^H1121 of Manasseh ^H4519 could ^H3201 not take ^H3423 possession ^H3423 of these ^H428 cities ^H5892 because the Canaanites ^H3669 persisted ^H2974 in living ^H3427 in that land ^H776. 13 Now it happened ^H1961 that when ^H3588 the sons ^H1121 of Israel ^H3478 became ^H2388 strong ^H2388, they put ^H5414 the Canaanites ^H3669 to forced ^H4522 labor ^H4522, but they did not dispossess ^H3423 them completely ^H3423.

14 Then the sons ^H1121 of Joseph ^H3130 spoke ^H1696 to Joshua ^H3091, saying ^H559, “Why ^H4069 have you given ^H5414 me only one ^H259 lot ^H1486 and one ^H259 portion ^H2256 for an inheritance ^H5159, since I am a numerous ^H7227 people ^H5971 whom ^H834 Yahweh ^H3068 has thus ^H3541 far ^H5704 blessed ^H1288?” 15 And Joshua ^H3091 said ^H559 to them, “If ^H518 you are a numerous ^H7227 people ^H5971, go ^H5927 [fn]up ^H5927 to the forest ^H3293 and [fn]clear ^H1254 a place for yourself there ^H8033 in the land ^H776 of the Perizzites ^H6522 and of the Rephaim ^H7497, since ^H3588 the hill ^H2022 country ^H2022 of Ephraim ^H669 is ^H213 too ^H213 narrow ^H213 for you.” 16 And the sons ^H1121 of Joseph ^H3130 said ^H559, “The hill ^H2022 country ^H2022 is ^H4672 not enough ^H4672 for us, and all ^H3605 the Canaanites ^H3669 who live ^H3427 in the valley ^H6010 land ^H776 have chariots ^H7393 of iron ^H1270, both those who ^H834 are in Beth-shean ^H1052 and its towns ^H1323 and those who ^H834 are in the valley ^H6010 of Jezreel ^H3157.” 17 Then Joshua ^H3091 spoke ^H559 to the house ^H1004 of Joseph ^H3130, to Ephraim ^H669 and Manasseh ^H4519, saying ^H559, “You are a numerous ^H7227 people ^H5971 and have great ^H1419 power ^H3581; you shall not have ^H1961 one ^H259 lot ^H1486 only, 18 but the hill ^H2022 country ^H2022 shall be yours. For though it is a forest ^H3293, you shall [fn]clear ^H1254 it, and to its [fn]farthest ^H8444 borders ^H8444 it shall be yours; for you shall dispossess ^H3423 the Canaanites ^H3669, even ^H3588 though ^H3588 they have chariots ^H7393 of iron ^H1270 and even ^H3588 though ^H3588 they are strong ^H2389.”
