A Call to Prayer
1 First G4413 of all G3956, then G3767, I urge G3870 that requests G1162, prayers G4335, intercession G1783, and thanksgiving G2169 be made G4160 in G5228 behalf G5228 of all G3956 people G444,
2 for kings G935 and all G3956 who are in [fn]authority G5247, so G2443 that G2443 we may lead G1236 a tranquil G2263 and quiet G2272 life G979 in all G3956 godliness G2150 and [fn]dignity G4587. 3 This G3778 is good G2570 and acceptable G587 in G1799 the G1799 sight G1799 of G1799 God G2316 our Savior G4990, 4 who G3739 wants G2309 all G3956 people G444 to be saved G4982 and to come G2064 to the [fn]knowledge G1922 of the truth G225. 5 For there is one G1520 God G2316, and one G1520 mediator G3316 also G2532 between God G2316 and mankind G444, the Man G444 Christ G5547 Jesus G2424, 6 who gave G1325 Himself G1438 as a ransom G487 for all G3956, the testimony G3142 [fn]given at [fn]the proper G2398 time G2540. 7 For this G3739 I was appointed G5087 as a [fn]preacher G2783 and an apostle G652 (I am telling G3004 the truth G225, I am not lying G5574), as a teacher G1320 of the Gentiles G1484 in faith G4102 and truth G225.
Instructions for Believers
8 Therefore G3767 I want G1014 the men G435 in every G3956 place G5117 to pray G4336, lifting G1869 up G1869 holy G3741 hands G5495, without G5565 anger G3709 and dispute G1261.
9 Likewise G5615, I want women G1135 to adorn G2885 themselves G1438 with proper G2887 clothing G2689, [fn]modestly G127 and discreetly G4997, not with braided G4117 hair G4117 and gold G5553 or G2228 pearls G3135 or G2228 expensive G4185 apparel G2441, 10 but rather G235 by means G1223 of good G18 works G2041, as is proper G4241 for women G1135 making G1861 a claim G1861 to godliness G2317. 11 A woman G1135 must quietly G2271 receive G3129 instruction G3129 with entire G3956 submissiveness G5292. 12 But I do not allow G2010 a woman G1135 to teach G1321 or G3761 to exercise G831 authority G831 over G831 a man G435, but to remain G1510 quiet G2271. 13 For it was Adam G76 who was first G4413 [fn]created G4111, and then G1534 Eve G2096. 14 And it was not Adam G76 who was deceived G538, but the woman G1135 was [fn]deceived G1818 and [fn]became G1096 a wrongdoer G3847. 15 But [fn]women will be [fn]preserved G4982 through G1223 [fn]childbirth G5042—if G1437 they continue G3306 in faith G4102, love G26, and sanctity G38, with moderation G4997.
