Jehoash (Joash) Reigns over Judah

1 In the seventh ^H7651 year ^H8141 of Jehu ^H3058, [fn]Jehoash ^H3060 became ^H4427 king ^H4427, and he reigned ^H4427 for forty ^H705 years ^H8141 in Jerusalem ^H3389; and his mother’s ^H517 name ^H8034 was Zibiah ^H6645 of Beersheba ^H884.

2 Jehoash ^H3060 did ^H6213 what ^H3477 was ^H3477 right ^H3477 in the sight ^H5869 of the LORD ^H3068 all ^H3605 his days ^H3117 that Jehoiada ^H3077 the priest ^H3548 instructed ^H3384 him. 3 Only ^H7534 the high ^H1116 places ^H1116 did not end ^H5493; the people ^H5971 still ^H5750 sacrificed ^H2076 and burned ^H6999 incense ^H6999 on the high ^H1116 places ^H1116.

The Temple to Be Repaired

6 But it came ^H1961 about ^H1961 that in the twenty-third ^H6242 H7969 year ^H8141 of King ^H4428 Jehoash ^H3060, the priests ^H3548 had not repaired ^H2388 any damage ^H919 to the house ^H1004. 7 So King ^H4428 Jehoash ^H3060 summoned ^H7121 Jehoiada ^H3077 the priest ^H3548, and the other priests ^H3548, and said ^H559 to them, “Why ^H4069 do you not repair ^H2388 damage ^H919 to the house ^H1004? Now ^H6258 then, you are not to take ^H3947 any more money ^H3701 from your [fn]acquaintances ^H4378, but give ^H5414 it up ^H5414 for the damage ^H919 to the house ^H1004.” 8 The priests ^H3548 then agreed ^H225 that they would not take ^H3947 any more money ^H3701 from the people ^H5971, nor ^H1115 would they [fn]repair ^H2388 damage ^H919 to the house ^H1004.

17 Then ^H227 Hazael ^H2371 the king ^H4428 of Aram ^H758 went ^H5927 up ^H5927 and fought ^H3898 against ^H5921 Gath ^H1661 and captured ^H3920 it, and Hazael ^H2371 [fn]was ^H7760 intent ^H7760 H6440 on going ^H5927 up ^H5927 against ^H5921 Jerusalem ^H3389. 18 So Jehoash ^H3060 king ^H4428 of Judah ^H3063 took ^H3947 all ^H3605 the sacred ^H6944 offerings ^H6944 that Jehoshaphat ^H3092, Jehoram ^H3088, and Ahaziah ^H274, his fathers ^H1, kings ^H4428 of Judah ^H3063, had consecrated ^H6942, and his own sacred ^H6944 offerings ^H6944, and all ^H3605 the gold ^H2091 that was found ^H4672 among the treasuries ^H214 of the house ^H1004 of the LORD ^H3068 and of the king’s ^H4428 house ^H1004, and sent ^H7971 them to Hazael ^H2371 king ^H4428 of Aram ^H758. Then he withdrew ^H5927 from Jerusalem ^H3389.

Joash (Jehoash) Succeeded by Amaziah in Judah

19 Now as for the rest ^H3499 of the acts ^H1697 of Joash ^H3060 and everything ^H3605 that he did ^H6213, are they not written ^H3789 in the Book ^H5612 of the Chronicles ^H1697 H3117 of the Kings ^H4428 of Judah ^H3063?

20 And his servants ^H5650 rose ^H6965 up ^H6965 and formed ^H7194 a conspiracy ^H7195; and they struck ^H5221 and ^H5221 killed ^H5221 Joash ^H3060 at the house ^H1004 of Millo ^H4407 as he was going ^H3381 down ^H3381 to Silla ^H5538. 21 For Jozacar ^H3108 the son ^H1121 of Shimeath ^H8100 and Jehozabad ^H3075 the son ^H1121 of Shomer ^H7763, his servants ^H5650, struck ^H5221 him and he died ^H4191; and they buried ^H6912 him with his fathers ^H1 in the city ^H5892 of David ^H1732, and his son ^H1121 Amaziah ^H558 became ^H4427 king ^H4427 in ^H8478 his place ^H8478.
