Hezekiah’s Illness and Recovery

1 In those ^H1992 days ^H3117 Hezekiah ^H2396 became ^H2470 [fn]mortally ^H4191 ill ^H2470. And Isaiah ^H3470 the prophet ^H5030, the son ^H1121 of Amoz ^H531, came ^H935 to him and said ^H559 to him, “This ^H3541 is ^H3541 what ^H3541 the LORD ^H3068 says ^H559: ‘Set ^H6680 your house ^H1004 in ^H6680 order ^H6680, for you are going to die ^H4191 and not live ^H2421.’”

2 Then he turned ^H5437 his face ^H6440 to the wall ^H7023 and prayed ^H6419 to the LORD ^H3068, saying ^H559, 3 “Please ^H577, LORD ^H3068, just ^H4994 remember ^H2142 how ^H834 I have walked ^H1980 before ^H6440 You wholeheartedly ^H8003 H3824 and in truth ^H571, and have done ^H6213 what ^H2896 is ^H2896 good ^H2896 in Your sight ^H5869!” And Hezekiah ^H2396 wept ^H1058 [fn]profusely ^H1419 H1065. 4 And even before ^H3808 Isaiah ^H3470 had left ^H3318 the middle ^H8484 courtyard ^H2691, the word ^H1697 of the LORD ^H3068 came ^H1961 to him, saying ^H559, 5 “Return ^H7725 and say ^H559 to Hezekiah ^H2396 the leader ^H5057 of My people ^H5971, ‘This ^H3541 is ^H3541 what ^H3541 the LORD ^H3068, the God ^H430 of your father ^H1 David ^H1732 says ^H559: “I have heard ^H8085 your prayer ^H8605, I have seen ^H7200 your tears ^H1832; behold ^H2009, I am going to heal ^H7495 you. On the third ^H7992 day ^H3117 you shall go ^H5927 up ^H5927 to the house ^H1004 of the LORD ^H3068. 6 And I will add ^H3254 fifteen ^H2568 H6240 years ^H8141 to your [fn]life ^H3117, and I will save ^H5337 you and this ^H2088 city ^H5892 from the hand ^H3709 of the king ^H4428 of Assyria ^H804; and I will protect ^H1598 this ^H2088 city ^H5892 for My own sake ^H4616 and for My servant ^H5650 David’s ^H1732 sake ^H4616.”’” 7 Then Isaiah ^H3470 said ^H559, “Take ^H3947 a cake ^H1690 of figs ^H8384.” And they took ^H3947 it and placed ^H7760 it on the inflamed ^H7822 spot ^H7822, and he recovered ^H2421.

8 Now Hezekiah ^H2396 said ^H559 to Isaiah ^H3470, “What ^H4100 will be the sign ^H226 that the LORD ^H3068 will heal ^H7495 me, and that I will go ^H5927 up ^H5927 to the house ^H1004 of the LORD ^H3068 on the third ^H7992 day ^H3117?” 9 Isaiah ^H3470 said ^H559, “This ^H2088 shall be the sign ^H226 to you from the LORD ^H3068, that the LORD ^H3068 will perform ^H6213 the word ^H1697 that He has spoken ^H1696: shall the shadow ^H6738 go ^H1980 forward ten ^H6235 steps ^H4609 or ^H518 go ^H7725 back ^H7725 ten ^H6235 steps ^H4609?” 10 So Hezekiah ^H2396 said ^H559, “It is ^H7043 easy ^H7043 for the shadow ^H6738 to decline ^H5186 ten ^H6235 steps ^H4609; no ^H3808, but have the shadow ^H6738 turn ^H7725 backward ^H322 ten ^H6235 steps ^H4609.” 11 Then Isaiah ^H3470 the prophet ^H5030 called ^H7121 out ^H7121 to the LORD ^H3068, and He brought ^H7725 the shadow ^H6738 on the [fn]stairway ^H4609 back ^H322 ten ^H6235 steps ^H4609 by which ^H834 it had gone ^H3381 down ^H3381 on the [fn]stairway ^H4609 of Ahaz ^H271.

Hezekiah Shows Babylon His Treasures

12 At that time ^H6256 [fn]Berodach-baladan ^H1255, a son ^H1121 of Baladan ^H1081, king ^H4428 of Babylon ^H894, sent ^H7971 letters ^H5612 and a gift ^H4503 to Hezekiah ^H2396, because ^H3588 he heard ^H8085 that Hezekiah ^H2396 had been ^H2470 sick ^H2470.

13 And Hezekiah ^H2396 listened ^H8085 to [fn]them, and showed ^H7200 them all ^H3605 his treasure ^H5238 house ^H1004, the silver ^H3701, the gold ^H2091, the balsam ^H1314 oil ^H1314, the [fn]scented ^H2896 oil ^H8081, the house ^H1004 of his armor ^H3627, and everything ^H3605 that was found ^H4672 in his treasuries ^H214. There was nothing ^H3808 H1697 in his house ^H1004 nor ^H3808 in all ^H3605 his realm ^H4475 that Hezekiah ^H2396 did not show ^H7200 them. 14 Then Isaiah ^H3470 the prophet ^H5030 came ^H935 to King ^H4428 Hezekiah ^H2396 and said ^H559 to him, “What ^H4100 did these ^H428 men ^H376 say ^H559, and from where ^H370 have they come ^H935 to you?” And Hezekiah ^H2396 said ^H559, “They have come ^H935 from a far ^H7350 country ^H776, from Babylon ^H894.” 15 Isaiah said ^H559, “What ^H4100 have they seen ^H7200 in your house ^H1004?” So Hezekiah ^H2396 [fn]answered ^H559, “They have seen ^H7200 everything ^H3605 that is in my house ^H1004; there is nothing ^H3808 H1697 among my treasuries ^H214 that I have not shown ^H7200 them.”

16 Then Isaiah ^H3470 said ^H559 to Hezekiah ^H2396, “Hear ^H8085 the word ^H1697 of the LORD ^H3068: 17 ‘Behold ^H2009, the days ^H3117 are coming ^H935 when everything ^H3605 that is in your house ^H1004, and what ^H834 your fathers ^H1 have stored ^H686 up to this ^H2088 day ^H3117, will be carried ^H5375 to Babylon ^H894; nothing ^H3808 H1697 will be left ^H3498,’ says ^H559 the LORD ^H3068. 18 ‘And some ^H4480 of your sons ^H1121 who ^H834 will come ^H3318 from you, whom ^H834 you will father ^H3205, will be taken ^H3947 away; and they will become ^H1961 officials ^H5631 in the palace ^H1964 of the king ^H4428 of Babylon ^H894.’” 19 Then Hezekiah ^H2396 said ^H559 to Isaiah ^H3470, “The word ^H1697 of the LORD ^H3068 which ^H834 you have spoken ^H1696 is good ^H2896.” For he [fn]thought ^H559, “Is it not good, if ^H518 there will be peace ^H7965 and [fn]security ^H571 in my days ^H3117?”

20 Now the rest ^H3499 of the acts ^H1697 of Hezekiah ^H2396 and all ^H3605 his might ^H1369, and how ^H834 he constructed ^H6213 the pool ^H1295 and the conduit ^H8585 and brought ^H935 water ^H4325 into the city ^H5892, are they not written ^H3789 in the Book ^H5612 of the Chronicles ^H1697 H3117 of the Kings ^H4428 of Judah ^H3063? 21 So Hezekiah ^H2396 [fn]lay ^H7901 down ^H7901 with his fathers ^H1, and his son ^H1121 Manasseh ^H4519 became ^H4427 king ^H4427 in ^H8478 his place ^H8478.
