Naaman Is Healed

1 Now Naaman ^H5283, commander ^H8269 of the army ^H6635 of the king ^H4428 of Aram ^H758, was a great ^H1419 man ^H376 [fn]in the view of his master ^H113, and eminent ^H5375 H6440, because ^H3588 by him the LORD ^H3068 had given ^H5414 victory ^H8668 to Aram ^H758. The man ^H376 was also a valiant ^H2428 warrior ^H1368, but afflicted ^H6879 with ^H6879 leprosy ^H6879.

2 Now the Arameans ^H758 had gone ^H3318 out ^H3318 in bands ^H1416 and had taken ^H7617 captive ^H7617 a little ^H6996 girl ^H5291 from the land ^H776 of Israel ^H3478; and she [fn]waited ^H1961 on Naaman’s ^H5283 wife ^H802. 3 And she said ^H559 to her mistress ^H1404, “If ^H305 only ^H305 my master ^H113 were [fn]with the prophet ^H5030 who ^H834 is in Samaria ^H8111! 6 And he brought ^H935 the letter ^H5612 to the king ^H4428 of Israel ^H3478, [fn]which said ^H559, “And now ^H6258 as this ^H2088 letter ^H5612 comes ^H935 to you, behold ^H2009, I have sent ^H7971 Naaman ^H5283 my servant ^H5650 to you, so that you may cure ^H622 him of his leprosy ^H6883.” 7 But when the king ^H4428 of Israel ^H3478 read ^H7121 the letter ^H5612, he tore ^H7167 his clothes ^H899 and said ^H559, “Am I God ^H430, to kill ^H4191 and to keep ^H2421 alive ^H2421, that this ^H2088 man is sending ^H7971 word to me to cure ^H622 a man ^H376 of his leprosy ^H6883? But consider ^H3045 now ^H4994, and see ^H7200 how ^H3588 he is seeking ^H579 [fn]a ^H579 quarrel ^H579 against me.”

8 Now it happened ^H1961, when Elisha ^H477 the man ^H376 of God ^H430 heard ^H8085 that the king ^H4428 of Israel ^H3478 had torn ^H7167 his clothes ^H899, that he sent ^H7971 word to the king ^H4428, saying ^H559, “Why ^H4100 did you tear ^H7167 your clothes ^H899? Just ^H4994 have him come ^H935 to me, and he shall learn ^H3045 that there ^H3426 is ^H3426 a prophet ^H5030 in Israel ^H3478.” 9 So Naaman ^H5283 came ^H935 with his horses ^H5483 and his chariots ^H7393, and stood ^H5975 at the doorway ^H6607 of Elisha’s ^H477 house ^H1004. 10 And Elisha ^H477 sent ^H7971 a messenger ^H4397 to him, saying ^H559, “Go ^H1980 and wash ^H7364 in the Jordan ^H3383 seven ^H7651 times ^H6471, and your flesh ^H1320 will be restored ^H7725 to you and you will be ^H2891 clean ^H2891.” 11 But Naaman ^H5283 was ^H7107 furious ^H7107 and went ^H1980 away, and he said ^H559, “Behold ^H2009, I [fn]thought ^H559, ‘He will certainly ^H3318 come ^H3318 out ^H3318 to me, and stand ^H5975 and call ^H7121 on the name ^H8034 of the LORD ^H3068 his God ^H430, and wave ^H5130 his hand ^H3027 over ^H413 the site ^H4725 and cure ^H622 the [fn]leprosy ^H6879.’ 12 Are [fn]Abanah ^H71 and Pharpar ^H6554, the rivers ^H5104 of Damascus ^H1834, not better ^H2896 than ^H4480 all ^H3605 the waters ^H4325 of Israel ^H3478? Could I not wash ^H7364 in them and be ^H2891 clean ^H2891?” So he turned ^H6437 and went ^H1980 away in a rage ^H2534. 13 Then his servants ^H5650 approached ^H5066 and spoke ^H1696 to him, [fn]saying ^H559, “My father ^H1, had the prophet ^H5030 told ^H1696 you to do some great ^H1419 thing ^H1697, would you not have done ^H6213 it? How ^H637 much ^H637 H3588 more ^H637 H3588 then, when ^H3588 he says ^H559 to you, ‘Wash ^H7364, and be ^H2891 clean ^H2891’?” 14 So he went ^H3381 down ^H3381 and dipped ^H2881 himself in the Jordan ^H3383 seven ^H7651 times ^H6471, in accordance with the word ^H1697 of the man ^H376 of God ^H430; and his flesh ^H1320 was restored ^H7725 like the flesh ^H1320 of a little ^H6996 child ^H5288, and he was ^H2891 clean ^H2891.

Gehazi’s Greed

15 Then he returned ^H7725 to the man ^H376 of God ^H430 [fn]with all ^H3605 his company ^H4264, and came ^H935 and stood ^H5975 before ^H6440 him. And he said ^H559, “Behold ^H2009 now ^H4994, I know ^H3045 that there ^H369 is ^H369 no ^H369 God ^H430 in all ^H3605 the earth ^H776, except ^H3588 H518 in Israel ^H3478; so please ^H4994 accept ^H3947 a [fn]gift ^H1293 from your servant ^H5650 now ^H6258.”

16 But he said ^H559, “As surely as the LORD ^H3068 lives ^H2416, before ^H6440 whom ^H834 I stand ^H5975, I will accept ^H3947 nothing ^H518.” And he urged ^H6484 him to accept ^H3947 it, but he refused ^H3985. 17 Then Naaman ^H5283 said ^H559, “If not, please ^H4994 let your servant ^H5650 be given ^H5414 two ^H6776 mules’ ^H6505 load ^H4853 of earth ^H127; for your servant ^H5650 will no ^H3808 longer ^H5750 offer ^H6213 a burnt ^H5930 offering ^H5930 nor ^H3808 a sacrifice ^H2077 to other ^H312 gods ^H430, but to the LORD ^H3068. 18 Regarding this ^H2088 matter ^H1697 may the LORD ^H3068 forgive ^H5545 your servant ^H5650: when my master ^H113 goes ^H935 into the house ^H1004 of Rimmon ^H7417 to worship ^H2331 there ^H8033, and he leans ^H8172 on my hand ^H3027 and I bow ^H2331 down ^H2331 in the house ^H1004 of Rimmon ^H7417, when I bow ^H2331 down ^H2331 in the house ^H1004 of Rimmon ^H7417, may the LORD ^H3068 please ^H4994 forgive ^H5545 your servant ^H5650 in this ^H2088 matter ^H1697.” 19 He said ^H559 to him, “Go ^H1980 in peace ^H7965.” So he went ^H1980 some ^H3530 distance ^H3530 H776 from him.

20 But Gehazi ^H1522, the servant ^H5288 of Elisha ^H477 the man ^H376 of God ^H430, [fn]thought ^H559, “Behold ^H2009, my master ^H113 has spared ^H2820 this ^H2088 Naaman ^H5283 the Aramean ^H761, [fn]by not accepting ^H3947 from his hand ^H3027 what ^H834 he brought ^H935. As the LORD ^H3068 lives ^H2416, I will run ^H7323 after ^H310 him and take ^H3947 something ^H3972 from him.” 21 So Gehazi ^H1522 pursued ^H7291 Naaman ^H5283. When Naaman ^H5283 saw ^H7200 someone running ^H7323 after ^H310 him, he came ^H5307 down ^H5307 from the chariot ^H4818 to meet ^H7122 him and said ^H559, “Is everything well ^H7965?” 22 And he said ^H559, “Everything is well ^H7965. My master ^H113 has sent ^H7971 me, saying ^H559, ‘Behold ^H2009, just ^H2088 now ^H6258 two ^H8147 young ^H5288 men ^H5288 of the sons ^H1121 of the prophets ^H5030 have come ^H935 to me from the hill ^H2022 country ^H2022 of Ephraim ^H669. Please ^H4994 give ^H5414 them a talent ^H3603 of silver ^H3701 and two ^H8147 changes ^H2487 of clothes ^H899.’” 23 Naaman ^H5283 said ^H559, “Be ^H2974 sure ^H2974 to take ^H3947 two talents ^H3603.” And he urged ^H6555 him, and tied ^H6696 up ^H6696 two talents ^H3603 of silver ^H3701 in two ^H8147 bags ^H2754 with two ^H8147 changes ^H2487 of clothes ^H899, and gave ^H5414 them to two ^H8147 of his servants ^H5288; and they carried ^H5375 them before ^H6440 him. 24 When he came ^H935 to the [fn]hill ^H6076, he took ^H3947 them from their hand ^H3027 and deposited ^H6485 them in the house ^H1004, and he sent ^H7971 the men ^H376 away ^H7971, and they departed ^H1980. 25 But he went ^H935 in ^H935 and stood ^H5975 before ^H413 his master ^H113. And Elisha ^H477 said ^H559 to him, “Where ^H575 have you been, Gehazi ^H1522?” And he said ^H559, “Your servant ^H5650 went ^H1980 nowhere ^H3808 H575.”

26 Then he said ^H559 to him, “Did my heart ^H3820 not go ^H1980 with you, when ^H834 the man ^H376 turned ^H2015 from his chariot ^H4818 to meet ^H7122 you? Is it a time ^H6256 to accept ^H3947 money ^H3701 and to accept ^H3947 clothes ^H899, olive ^H2132 groves ^H2132, vineyards ^H3754, sheep ^H6629, oxen ^H1241, and male ^H5650 and female ^H8198 slaves ^H5650 H8198? 27 Therefore, the leprosy ^H6883 of Naaman ^H5283 shall cling ^H1692 to you and to your [fn]descendants ^H2233 forever ^H5769.” So he went ^H3318 out ^H3318 from his presence ^H6440 afflicted ^H6879 with ^H6879 leprosy ^H6879, as white as snow ^H7950.
