David’s Kindness to Mephibosheth
1 Then David H1732 said H559, “Is H3426 there H3426 [fn]anyone H834 still H5750 left H3498 of the house H1004 of Saul H7586, so that I could show H6213 him kindness H2617 for Jonathan’s H3083 sake H5668?”
2 Now there was a servant H5650 of the house H1004 of Saul H7586 whose name H8034 was Ziba H6717, and they summoned H7121 him to David H1732; and the king H4428 said H559 to him, “Are you Ziba H6717?” And he said H559, “I am your servant H5650.” 3 Then the king H4428 said H559, “Is there no H657 one H376 remaining H5750 of the house H1004 of Saul H7586 to whom I could show H6213 the kindness H2617 of God H430?” And Ziba H6717 said H559 to the king H4428, “There is still H5750 a son H1121 of Jonathan H3083, one who is disabled H5223 in both H7272 feet H7272.” 4 So the king H4428 said H559 to him, “Where H375 is he?” And Ziba H6717 said H559 to the king H4428, “Behold H2009, he is in the house H1004 of Machir H4353 the son H1121 of Ammiel H5988, in Lo-debar H3810.” 5 Then King H4428 David H1732 sent H7971 [fn]messengers who brought H3947 him from the house H1004 of Machir H4353 the son H1121 of Ammiel H5988, from Lo-debar H3810. 6 Mephibosheth H4648, the son H1121 of Jonathan H3083 the son H1121 of Saul H7586, came H935 to David H1732 and fell H5307 on his face H6440 and prostrated H2331 himself. And David H1732 said H559, “Mephibosheth H4648.” And he said H559, “Here H2009 is your servant H5650!” 7 Then David H1732 said H559 to him, “Do not be H3372 afraid H3372, for I will assuredly H6213 show H6213 kindness H2617 to you for the sake H5668 of your father H1 Jonathan H3083, and I will restore H7725 to you all H3605 the [fn]land H7704 of your [fn]grandfather H1 Saul H7586; and you yourself H859 shall [fn]eat H398 at my table H7979 regularly H8548.” 8 Again he prostrated H2331 himself, and said H559, “What H4100 is your servant H5650, that you should be H6437 concerned H6437 about H413 a dead H4191 dog H3611 like H3644 me?”
9 Then the king H4428 summoned H7121 Saul’s H7586 servant H5288 Ziba H6717 and said H559 to him, “Everything H3605 that belonged H1961 to Saul H7586 and to all H3605 his house H1004 I have given H5414 to your master’s H113 [fn]grandson H1121. 10 You and your sons H1121 and your servants H5650 shall cultivate H5647 the land H127 for him, and you shall bring H935 in H935 the produce so that your master’s H113 grandson H1121 will have H1961 food H3899 [fn]to eat H398; nevertheless Mephibosheth H4648, your master’s H113 grandson H1121, shall [fn]eat H398 at my table H7979 regularly H8548.” Now Ziba H6717 had fifteen H2568 H6240 sons H1121 and twenty H6242 servants H5650. 11 Then Ziba H6717 said H559 to the king H4428, “In accordance with everything H3605 that my lord H113 the king H4428 commands H6680 his servant H5650, so H3651 your servant H5650 will do H6213.” So Mephibosheth H4648 ate H398 at [fn]David’s table H7979 as one H259 of the king’s H4428 sons H1121. 12 Mephibosheth H4648 had a young H6996 son H1121 whose name H8034 was Mica H4316. And all H3605 who lived H4186 in the house H1004 of Ziba H6717 were servants H5650 to Mephibosheth H4648. 13 So Mephibosheth H4648 lived H3427 in Jerusalem H3389, because H3588 he ate H398 at the king’s H4428 table H7979 regularly H8548. And he was disabled H6455 in his two H8147 feet H7272.
