Daniel’s Prayer for His People

1 In the first ^H259 year ^H8141 of Darius ^H1867 the son ^H1121 of Ahasuerus ^H325, of Median ^H4074 descent ^H2233, who ^H834 was made ^H4427 king ^H4427 over ^H5921 the kingdom ^H4438 of the Chaldeans ^H3778—

2 in the first ^H259 year ^H8141 of his reign ^H4427, I, Daniel ^H1840, observed ^H995 in the books ^H5612 the number ^H4557 of the years ^H8141 which ^H834 was revealed as the word ^H1697 of the LORD ^H3068 to Jeremiah ^H3414 the prophet ^H5030 for the completion ^H4390 of the desolations ^H2723 of Jerusalem ^H3389, namely, seventy ^H7657 years ^H8141. 3 So I gave ^H5414 my [fn]attention ^H6440 to the Lord ^H136 God ^H430, to seek ^H1245 Him by prayer ^H8605 and pleading ^H8469, with fasting ^H6685, sackcloth ^H8242, and ashes ^H665. 4 I prayed ^H6419 to the LORD ^H3068 my God ^H430 and confessed ^H3034, and said ^H559, “Oh ^H577, Lord ^H136, the great ^H1419 and awesome ^H3372 God ^H410, who keeps ^H8104 His covenant ^H1285 and faithfulness ^H2617 for those who love ^H157 Him and keep ^H8104 His commandments ^H4687, 5 we have sinned ^H2398, we have done ^H5753 wrong ^H5753, and [fn]acted ^H7561 wickedly ^H7561 and rebelled ^H4775, even turning ^H5493 aside ^H5493 from Your commandments ^H4687 and ordinances ^H4941. 6 Moreover, we have not listened ^H8085 to Your servants ^H5650 the prophets ^H5030, who ^H834 spoke ^H1696 in Your name ^H8034 to our kings ^H4428, our leaders ^H8269, our fathers ^H1, and all ^H3605 the people ^H5971 of the land ^H776.

7 “Righteousness ^H6666 belongs to You, Lord ^H136, but to us [fn]open ^H6440 shame ^H1322, as it is this ^H2088 day ^H3117—to the men ^H376 of Judah ^H3063, the inhabitants ^H3427 of Jerusalem ^H3389, and all ^H3605 Israel ^H3478, those who are nearby ^H7138 and those who are far ^H7350 away in all ^H3605 the countries ^H776 to which ^H834 You have driven ^H5080 them, because of their unfaithful ^H4603 H4604 deeds ^H4604 which ^H834 they have committed ^H4603 against You. 8 [fn]Open ^H6440 shame ^H1322 belongs to us, LORD ^H3068, to our kings ^H4428, our leaders ^H8269, and our fathers ^H1, because ^H834 we have sinned ^H2398 against You. 9 To the Lord ^H136 our God ^H430 belong compassion ^H7356 and forgiveness ^H5547, [fn]because ^H3588 we have rebelled ^H4775 against Him; 10 and we have not obeyed ^H8085 the voice ^H6963 of the LORD ^H3068 our God ^H430, to walk ^H1980 in His [fn]teachings ^H8451 which ^H834 He set ^H5414 before ^H6440 us through ^H3027 His servants ^H5650 the prophets ^H5030. 11 Indeed, all ^H3605 Israel ^H3478 has violated ^H5674 Your Law ^H8451 and turned ^H5493 aside ^H5493, not obeying ^H8085 Your voice ^H6963; so the curse ^H423 has gushed ^H5413 forth ^H5413 on us, along with the oath ^H7621 which ^H834 is written ^H3789 in the Law ^H8451 of Moses ^H4872 the servant ^H5650 of God ^H430, because ^H3588 we have sinned ^H2398 against Him. 12 So He has confirmed ^H6965 His words ^H1697 which ^H834 He had spoken ^H1696 against ^H5921 us and against ^H5921 our [fn]rulers ^H8199 who ^H834 ruled ^H8199 us, to bring ^H935 on us great ^H1419 disaster ^H7451; for under ^H8478 the entire ^H3605 heaven ^H8064 there has not been done ^H6213 anything like what ^H834 was done ^H6213 in Jerusalem ^H3389. 13 Just ^H834 as ^H834 it is written ^H3789 in the Law ^H8451 of Moses ^H4872, all ^H3605 this ^H2088 disaster ^H7451 has come ^H935 on us; yet we have not [fn]sought ^H2470 the favor ^H6440 of the LORD ^H3068 our God ^H430 by turning ^H7725 from our wrongdoing ^H5771 and [fn]giving ^H7919 attention ^H7919 to Your truth ^H571. 14 So the LORD ^H3068 has [fn]kept ^H8245 the disaster ^H7451 in ^H8245 store ^H8245 and brought ^H935 it on us; for the LORD ^H3068 our God ^H430 is righteous ^H6662 with respect ^H5921 to all ^H3605 His deeds ^H4639 which ^H834 He has done ^H6213, but we have not obeyed ^H8085 His voice ^H6963.

15 “And now ^H6258, Lord ^H136, our God ^H430, You who ^H834 brought ^H3318 Your people ^H5971 out ^H3318 of the land ^H776 of Egypt ^H4714 with a mighty ^H2389 hand ^H3027 and made ^H6213 a name ^H8034 for Yourself, as it is this ^H2088 day ^H3117—we have sinned ^H2398, we have been ^H7561 wicked ^H7561. 16 Lord ^H136, in accordance with all ^H3605 Your [fn]righteous ^H6666 acts ^H6666, let now ^H4994 Your anger ^H639 and Your wrath ^H2534 turn ^H7725 away ^H7725 from Your city ^H5892 Jerusalem ^H3389, Your holy ^H6944 mountain ^H2022; for because of our sins ^H2399 and the wrongdoings ^H5771 of our fathers ^H1, Jerusalem ^H3389 and Your people ^H5971 have become an object ^H2781 of ^H2781 taunting ^H2781 to all ^H3605 those around ^H5439 us. 17 So now ^H6258, our God ^H430, listen ^H8085 to the prayer ^H8605 of Your servant ^H5650 and to his pleas ^H8469, and for [fn]Your sake ^H4616, Lord ^H136, let Your face ^H6440 shine ^H215 on Your desolate ^H8076 sanctuary ^H4720. 18 My God ^H430, incline ^H5186 Your ear ^H241 and hear ^H8085! Open ^H6491 Your eyes ^H5869 and see ^H7200 our desolations ^H8074 and the city ^H5892 which ^H834 is called ^H7121 by Your name ^H8034; for we are not [fn]presenting ^H5307 our pleas ^H8469 before ^H6440 You based ^H5921 on [fn]any merits ^H6666 of our own, but based ^H5921 on Your great ^H7227 compassion ^H7356. 19 Lord ^H136, hear ^H8085! Lord ^H136, forgive ^H5545! Lord ^H136, listen ^H7181 and take ^H6213 action ^H6213! For Your own sake ^H4616, my God ^H430, do not delay ^H309, because ^H3588 Your city ^H5892 and Your people ^H5971 are called ^H7121 by Your name ^H8034.”

Gabriel Brings an Answer

20 While I was still ^H5750 speaking ^H1696 and praying ^H6419, and confessing ^H3034 my sin ^H2403 and the sin ^H2403 of my people ^H5971 Israel ^H3478, and [fn]presenting ^H5307 my plea ^H8467 before ^H6440 the LORD ^H3068 my God ^H430 in ^H5921 behalf ^H5921 of ^H5921 the holy ^H6944 mountain ^H2022 of my God ^H430,

21 while I was still ^H5750 speaking ^H1696 in prayer ^H8605, the man ^H376 Gabriel ^H1403, whom ^H834 I had seen ^H7200 in the vision ^H2377 [fn]previously ^H8462, [fn]came ^H5060 to me [fn]in my extreme ^H3286 weariness ^H3288 about the time ^H6256 of the evening ^H6153 offering ^H4503. 22 And he instructed ^H995 me and talked ^H1696 with me and said ^H559, “Daniel ^H1840, I have come ^H3318 now ^H6258 to give ^H7919 you insight ^H7919 with understanding ^H998. 23 At the beginning ^H8462 of your pleas ^H8469 the [fn]command ^H1697 was issued ^H3318, and I have come ^H935 to tell ^H5046 you, because ^H3588 you are [fn]highly ^H2532 esteemed ^H2532; so pay ^H995 attention ^H995 to the message ^H1697 and gain ^H995 understanding ^H995 of the vision ^H4758.

Seventy Weeks and the Messiah

24 “Seventy ^H7657 [fn]weeks ^H7620 have been decreed ^H2852 for your people ^H5971 and your holy ^H6944 city ^H5892, to [fn]finish ^H3615 the wrongdoing ^H6588, to [fn]make ^H8552 an ^H8552 end ^H8552 of ^H8552 sin ^H2403, to make ^H3722 atonement ^H3722 for guilt ^H5771, to bring ^H935 in ^H935 everlasting ^H5769 righteousness ^H6664, to seal ^H2856 up ^H2856 vision ^H2377 and [fn]prophecy ^H5030, and to anoint ^H4886 the Most ^H6944 Holy ^H6944 Place ^H6944.

25 So you are to know ^H3045 and understand ^H7919 that from the issuing ^H4161 of a [fn]decree ^H1697 to restore ^H7725 and rebuild ^H1129 Jerusalem ^H3389, until ^H5704 [fn]Messiah ^H4899 the Prince ^H5057, there will be seven ^H7655 weeks ^H7620 and sixty-two ^H8346 H8147 weeks ^H7620; it will be built ^H1129 again ^H7725, with [fn]streets ^H7339 and moat ^H2742, even in times ^H6256 of distress ^H6695. 26 Then after ^H310 the sixty-two ^H8346 H8147 weeks ^H7620, the [fn]Messiah ^H4899 will be cut ^H3772 off ^H3772 and have ^H369 [fn]nothing ^H369, and the people ^H5971 of the prince ^H5057 who is to come ^H935 will destroy ^H7843 the city ^H5892 and the sanctuary ^H6944. And [fn]its end ^H7093 will come with a flood ^H7858; even to the end ^H7093 [fn]there will be war ^H4421; desolations ^H8074 are determined ^H2782. 27 And he will confirm ^H1396 a covenant ^H1285 with the many ^H7227 for one ^H259 week ^H7620, but in the middle ^H2677 of the week ^H7620 he will put ^H7673 a ^H7673 stop ^H7673 to ^H7673 sacrifice ^H2077 and grain offering ^H4503; and on the wing ^H3671 of [fn]abominations ^H8251 will come the one who [fn]makes ^H8074 desolate ^H8074, until ^H5704 a complete ^H3617 destruction ^H3617, one that is [fn]decreed ^H2782, gushes ^H5413 forth ^H5413 on the one who [fn]makes ^H8074 desolate ^H8074.”
