The LORD Provides Manna

1 Then they set ^H5265 out ^H5265 from Elim ^H362, and all ^H3605 the congregation ^H5712 of the sons ^H1121 of Israel ^H3478 came ^H935 to the wilderness ^H4057 of Sin ^H5512, which ^H834 is between ^H996 Elim ^H362 and Sinai ^H5514, on the fifteenth ^H2568 H6240 day ^H3117 of the second ^H8145 month ^H2320 after their departure ^H3318 from the land ^H776 of Egypt ^H4714.

2 But the whole ^H3605 congregation ^H5712 of the sons ^H1121 of Israel ^H3478 grumbled ^H3885 against ^H5921 Moses ^H4872 and Aaron ^H175 in the wilderness ^H4057. 3 The sons ^H1121 of Israel ^H3478 said ^H559 to them, “If ^H4310 H5414 only ^H4310 H5414 we had died ^H4191 by the LORD’S ^H3068 hand ^H3027 in the land ^H776 of Egypt ^H4714, when we sat ^H3427 by the pots ^H5518 of meat ^H1320, when we ate ^H398 bread ^H3899 until ^H7648 we were full ^H7648; for you have brought ^H3318 us out ^H3318 into this ^H2088 wilderness ^H4057 to kill ^H4191 this ^H2088 entire ^H3605 assembly ^H6951 with hunger ^H7458!”

4 Then the LORD ^H3068 said ^H559 to Moses ^H4872, “Behold ^H2009, I will rain ^H4305 bread ^H3899 from heaven ^H8064 for you; and the people ^H5971 shall go ^H3318 out ^H3318 and gather ^H3950 a day’s ^H3117 portion ^H1697 every day ^H3117, so ^H4616 that ^H4616 I may test ^H5254 them, whether or ^H518 not they will walk ^H1980 in My [fn]instruction ^H8451. 5 On the sixth ^H8345 day ^H3117, when they prepare ^H3559 what ^H834 they bring ^H935 in ^H935, it will be twice ^H4932 as much ^H834 as they gather ^H3950 daily ^H3117.” 6 So Moses ^H4872 and Aaron ^H175 said ^H559 to all ^H3605 the sons ^H1121 of Israel ^H3478, “At evening ^H6153 [fn]you will know ^H3045 that the LORD ^H3068 has brought ^H3318 you out ^H3318 of the land ^H776 of Egypt ^H4714; 7 and in the morning ^H1242 [fn]you will see ^H7200 the glory ^H3519 of the LORD ^H3068, for He hears ^H8085 your grumblings ^H8519 against ^H5921 the LORD ^H3068; and what ^H4100 are we, that you grumble ^H3885 against ^H5921 us?”

The LORD Provides Meat

8 And Moses ^H4872 said ^H559, “This will happen when the LORD ^H3068 gives ^H5414 you meat ^H1320 to eat ^H398 in the evening ^H6153, and bread ^H3899 to the ^H7646 full ^H7646 in the morning ^H1242; for the LORD ^H3068 hears ^H8085 your grumblings ^H8519 which ^H834 you grumble ^H3885 against ^H5921 Him. And what ^H4100 are we? Your grumblings ^H8519 are not against ^H5921 us but against ^H5921 the LORD ^H3068.”

9 Then Moses ^H4872 said ^H559 to Aaron ^H175, “Say ^H559 to all ^H3605 the congregation ^H5712 of the sons ^H1121 of Israel ^H3478, ‘Come ^H7126 forward ^H7126 before ^H6440 the LORD ^H3068, for He has heard ^H8085 your grumblings ^H8519.’” 10 And it came ^H1961 about ^H1961, as Aaron ^H175 spoke ^H1696 to the entire ^H3605 congregation ^H5712 of the sons ^H1121 of Israel ^H3478, that they [fn]looked ^H6437 toward ^H413 the wilderness ^H4057, and behold ^H2009, the glory ^H3519 of the LORD ^H3068 appeared ^H7200 in the cloud ^H6051. 11 And the LORD ^H3068 spoke ^H1696 to Moses ^H4872, saying ^H559, 12 “I have heard ^H8085 the grumblings ^H8519 of the sons ^H1121 of Israel ^H3478; speak ^H1696 to them, saying ^H559, ‘[fn]At twilight ^H6153 you shall eat ^H398 meat ^H1320, and in the morning ^H1242 you shall be filled ^H7646 with bread ^H3899; and you shall know ^H3045 that I am the LORD ^H3068 your God ^H430.’”

13 So it came ^H1961 about ^H1961 at evening ^H6153 that the quails ^H7958 came ^H5927 up ^H5927 and covered ^H3680 the camp ^H4264, and in the morning ^H1242 there was a layer ^H7902 of dew ^H2919 around ^H5439 the camp ^H4264. 14 When the layer ^H7902 of dew ^H2919 [fn]evaporated ^H5927, behold ^H2009, on the [fn]surface ^H6440 of the wilderness ^H4057 there was a fine ^H1851 flake-like ^H2636 thing ^H2636, fine ^H1851 as the frost ^H3713 on the ground ^H776. 15 When the sons ^H1121 of Israel ^H3478 saw ^H7200 it, they said ^H559 to one ^H376 another ^H251, “[fn]What ^H4478 is it?” For they did not know ^H3045 what ^H4100 it was. And Moses ^H4872 said ^H559 to them, “It is the bread ^H3899 which ^H834 the LORD ^H3068 has given ^H5414 you to eat ^H402. 16 This ^H2088 is [fn]what ^H1697 H834 the LORD ^H3068 has commanded ^H6680: ‘Everyone ^H376 gather ^H3950 [fn]as much ^H6310 as he will eat ^H398; you shall take ^H3947 [fn]an omer ^H6016 apiece ^H1538 according to the number ^H4557 of people ^H5315 each ^H376 of you has in his tent ^H168.’” 17 The sons ^H1121 of Israel ^H3478 did ^H6213 so ^H3651, and some gathered ^H3950 much ^H7235 and some little ^H4591. 18 When they measured ^H4058 it by the [fn]omer ^H6016, the one who had gathered ^H7235 much ^H7235 did not have ^H5736 too ^H5736 much ^H5736, and the one who had gathered ^H4591 little ^H4591 did not have ^H2637 too ^H2637 little ^H2637; everyone ^H376 gathered ^H3950 [fn]as much ^H6310 as he would eat ^H398. 19 Moses ^H4872 said ^H559 to them, “No ^H408 one ^H376 is to leave ^H3498 any ^H4480 of it until ^H5704 morning ^H1242.” 20 But they did not listen ^H8085 to Moses ^H4872, and some ^H376 left ^H3498 part of it until ^H5704 morning ^H1242, and it bred ^H7311 worms ^H8438 and stank ^H887; and Moses ^H4872 was ^H7107 angry ^H7107 with them. 21 They gathered ^H3950 it morning ^H1242 by morning ^H1242, everyone ^H376 [fn]as much ^H6310 as he would eat ^H398; but when the sun ^H8121 became ^H2552 hot ^H2552, it would melt ^H4549.

The Sabbath

22 Now on the sixth ^H8345 day ^H3117 they gathered ^H3950 twice ^H4932 as ^H4932 much ^H4932 bread ^H3899, [fn]two ^H8147 omers ^H6016 for each ^H259 one ^H259. When all ^H3605 the leaders ^H5387 of the congregation ^H5712 came ^H935 and told ^H5046 Moses ^H4872,

23 then he said ^H559 to them, “This ^H1931 is what ^H834 the LORD ^H3068 [fn]meant ^H1696: Tomorrow ^H4279 is a Sabbath ^H7677 observance ^H7677, a holy ^H6944 Sabbath ^H7676 to the LORD ^H3068. Bake ^H644 what ^H834 you will bake ^H644 and boil ^H1310 what ^H834 you will boil ^H1310, and all ^H3605 that is left ^H5736 over ^H5736 [fn]put ^H5117 aside ^H5117 to be kept ^H4931 until ^H5704 morning ^H1242.” 24 So they put ^H5117 it aside ^H5117 until ^H5704 morning ^H1242, as Moses ^H4872 had ordered ^H6680, and it did not stink ^H887 nor ^H3808 was there a maggot ^H7415 in it. 25 Then Moses ^H4872 said ^H559, “Eat ^H398 it today ^H3117, for today ^H3117 is a Sabbath ^H7676 to the LORD ^H3068; today ^H3117 you will not find ^H4672 it in the field ^H7704. 26 Six ^H8337 days ^H3117 you shall gather ^H3950 it, but on the seventh ^H7637 day ^H3117, the Sabbath ^H7676, there will be [fn]none ^H3808.”

27 Yet it came ^H1961 about ^H1961 on the seventh ^H7637 day ^H3117 that some ^H4480 of the people ^H5971 went ^H3318 out ^H3318 to gather ^H3950, but they found ^H4672 none ^H3808. 28 Then the LORD ^H3068 said ^H559 to Moses ^H4872, “How ^H575 long ^H5704 do you refuse ^H3985 to keep ^H8104 My commandments ^H4687 and My [fn]instructions ^H8451? 29 See ^H7200, [fn]the LORD ^H3068 has given ^H5414 you the Sabbath ^H7676; for that ^H3651 reason ^H3651 He gives ^H5414 you bread ^H3899 for two days ^H3117 on the sixth ^H8345 day ^H3117. Remain ^H3427, everyone ^H376, in ^H8478 his place ^H8478; no ^H408 one ^H376 is to leave ^H3318 H4480 his place ^H4725 on the seventh ^H7637 day ^H3117.” 30 So the people ^H5971 rested ^H7673 on the seventh ^H7637 day ^H3117.

31 And the house ^H1004 of Israel ^H3478 named ^H7121 H8034 the bread [fn]manna ^H4478, and it was like coriander ^H1407 seed ^H2233, white ^H3836, and its taste ^H2940 was like wafers ^H6838 with honey ^H1706. 32 Then Moses ^H4872 said ^H559, “This ^H2088 is [fn]what ^H1697 H834 the LORD ^H3068 has commanded ^H6680: ‘A [fn]full ^H4393 omer ^H6016 of it is to be kept ^H4931 safe ^H4931 throughout your generations ^H1755, so ^H4616 that ^H4616 they may see ^H7200 the bread ^H3899 that I fed ^H398 you in the wilderness ^H4057, when I brought ^H3318 you out ^H3318 of the land ^H776 of Egypt ^H4714.’” 33 And Moses ^H4872 said ^H559 to Aaron ^H175, “Take ^H3947 a jar ^H6803 and put ^H5414 a [fn]full ^H4393 omer ^H6016 of manna ^H4478 in it, and place ^H5117 it before ^H6440 the LORD ^H3068 to be kept ^H4931 safe ^H4931 throughout your generations ^H1755.” 34 As the LORD ^H3068 commanded ^H6680 Moses ^H4872, so Aaron ^H175 placed ^H5117 it before ^H6440 the Testimony ^H5715, to be kept ^H4931. 35 And the sons ^H1121 of Israel ^H3478 ate ^H398 the manna ^H4478 for forty ^H705 years ^H8141, until ^H5704 they came ^H935 to an inhabited ^H3427 land ^H776; they ate ^H398 the manna ^H4478 until ^H5704 they came ^H935 to the border ^H7097 of the land ^H776 of Canaan ^H3667. 36 (Now an [fn]omer ^H6016 is a tenth ^H6224 of an ephah ^H374.)
