Joseph’s Success in Egypt

1 Now Joseph ^H3130 had been taken ^H3381 down ^H3381 to Egypt ^H4714; and Potiphar ^H6318, an Egyptian ^H4713 officer ^H5631 of Pharaoh ^H6547, the captain ^H8269 of the bodyguard ^H2876, bought ^H7069 him [fn]from the Ishmaelites ^H3459, who ^H834 had taken ^H3381 him down ^H3381 there ^H8033.

2 And the LORD ^H3068 was with Joseph ^H3130, so he became ^H1961 a [fn]successful ^H6743 man ^H376. And he was in the house ^H1004 of his master ^H113, the Egyptian ^H4713. 3 Now his master ^H113 saw ^H7200 that the LORD ^H3068 was with him and that the LORD ^H3068 made all ^H3605 that he did ^H6213 prosper ^H6743 in his hand ^H3027. 4 So Joseph ^H3130 found ^H4672 favor ^H2580 in his sight ^H5869 and [fn]became ^H8334 his personal ^H8334 servant ^H8334; and he made ^H6485 him overseer ^H6485 over ^H5921 his house ^H1004, and [fn]put ^H5414 him in charge ^H3027 of all ^H3605 that he owned ^H3426. 5 It came ^H1961 about ^H1961 that from the time ^H227 he made ^H6485 him overseer ^H6485 in his house ^H1004 and over ^H5921 all ^H3605 that he owned ^H3426, the LORD ^H3068 blessed ^H1288 the Egyptian’s ^H4713 house ^H1004 on account ^H1558 of Joseph ^H3130; so the LORD’S ^H3068 blessing ^H1293 was upon all ^H3605 that he owned ^H3426, in the house ^H1004 and in the field ^H7704. 6 So he left ^H5800 [fn]Joseph ^H3130 in charge ^H3027 of everything ^H3605 that he owned; and with him there he did not [fn]concern ^H3045 himself with anything ^H3972 except ^H3588 H518 the [fn]food ^H3899 which ^H834 he [fn]ate ^H398.

Now Joseph ^H3130 was handsome ^H3303 in form ^H8389 and appearance ^H4758. 7 And it came ^H1961 about ^H1961 after ^H310 these ^H428 events ^H1697 that his master’s ^H113 wife ^H802 [fn]had ^H5375 her eyes ^H5869 on Joseph ^H3130, and she said ^H559, “Sleep ^H7901 with me.” 8 But he refused ^H3985 and said ^H559 to his master’s ^H113 wife ^H802, “Look ^H2005, with me here, my master ^H113 [fn]does not concern ^H3045 himself with anything ^H4100 in the house ^H1004, and he has [fn]put ^H5414 me in charge ^H3027 of all ^H3605 that he owns ^H3426. 9 [fn]There ^H369 is ^H369 no ^H369 one greater ^H1419 in this ^H2088 house ^H1004 than ^H4480 I, and he has withheld ^H2820 nothing ^H3808 H3972 from me except ^H3588 H518 you, because ^H834 you are his wife ^H802. How ^H349 then could I do ^H6213 this ^H2088 great ^H1419 evil ^H7451, and sin ^H2398 against God ^H430?” 10 Though she spoke ^H1696 to Joseph ^H3130 day ^H3117 after day ^H3117, he did not listen ^H8085 to her to lie ^H7901 beside ^H681 her or be with her. 11 Now it happened ^H1961 [fn]one ^H2088 day ^H3117 that he went ^H935 into the house ^H1004 to do ^H6213 his work ^H4399, and none ^H369 H376 of the people ^H376 of the household ^H1004 was there ^H8033 inside ^H1004. 12 So she grabbed ^H8610 him by his garment ^H899, saying ^H559, “Sleep ^H7901 with me!” But he left ^H5800 his garment ^H899 in her hand ^H3027 and fled ^H5127, and went ^H3318 outside ^H2351. 13 [fn]When she saw ^H7200 that he had left ^H5800 his garment ^H899 in her hand ^H3027 and had fled ^H5127 outside ^H2351, 14 she called ^H7121 to the men ^H376 of her household ^H1004 and said ^H559 to them, “See ^H7200, he has brought ^H935 in ^H935 a [fn]Hebrew ^H5680 to us to make ^H6711 fun ^H6711 of us; he came ^H935 in ^H935 to me to sleep ^H7901 with me, and I [fn]screamed ^{H7121 H6963 H1419}. 15 When he heard ^H8085 that I raised ^H7311 my voice ^H6963 and [fn]screamed ^H7121, he left ^H5800 his garment ^H899 beside ^H681 me and fled ^H5127 and went ^H3318 outside ^H2351.” 16 So she [fn]left ^H5117 his garment ^H899 beside ^H681 her until ^H5704 his master ^H113 came ^H935 home ^H1004. 17 Then she spoke ^H1696 to him [fn]with these ^H428 [fn]words ^H1697: “The Hebrew ^H5680 slave ^H5650, whom ^H834 you brought ^H935 to us, came ^H935 in ^H935 to me to make ^H6711 fun ^H6711 of me; 18 but when I raised ^H7311 my voice ^H6963 and [fn]screamed ^H7121, he left ^H5800 his garment ^H899 beside ^H681 me and fled ^H5127 outside ^H2351.”

Joseph Imprisoned

19 Now when his master ^H113 heard ^H8085 the words ^H1697 of his wife ^H802 which ^H834 she spoke ^H1696 to him, saying ^H559, “[fn]This ^H1697 H428 is what ^H1697 your slave ^H5650 did ^H6213 to me,” his anger ^H639 burned ^H2734.

20 So Joseph’s ^H3130 master ^H113 took ^H3947 him and put ^H5414 him into the prison ^H1004 H5470, the place ^H4725 where ^H834 the king’s ^H4428 prisoners ^H615 were confined ^H631; and he was there ^H8033 in the prison ^H1004 H5470. 21 But the LORD ^H3068 was with Joseph ^H3130 and extended ^H5186 kindness ^H2617 to him, and gave ^H5414 him favor ^H2580 in the sight ^H5869 of the warden ^H8269 of the prison ^H1004 H5470. 22 And the warden ^H8269 of the prison ^H1004 H5470 [fn]put ^H5414 Joseph ^H3130 in charge ^H3027 of all ^H3605 the prisoners ^H615 who ^H834 were in the prison ^H1004 H5470; so that whatever ^H3605 H834 was done ^H6213 there ^H8033, he was [fn]responsible ^H6213 for it. 23 The warden ^H8269 of the prison ^H1004 H5470 did not supervise ^H7200 anything ^H3605 H3972 [fn]under Joseph’s authority ^H3027, because ^H834 the LORD ^H3068 was with him; and, the LORD ^H3068 made whatever ^H834 he did ^H6213 prosper ^H6743.
