Isaiah’s Vision
1 In the year H8141 of King H4428 Uzziah’s H5818 death H4194 I saw H7200 the Lord H136 sitting H3427 on a throne H3678, lofty H7311 and exalted H5375, with the train H7757 of H7757 His robe H7757 filling H4390 the temple H1964.
2 Seraphim H8314 were standing H5975 above H4605 Him, each H259 having six H8337 wings H3671: with two H8147 each covered H3680 his face H6440, and with two H8147 each covered H3680 his feet H7272, and with two H8147 each flew H5774. 3 And one H2088 called H7121 out H7121 to another H2088 and said H559,
“Holy H6918, Holy H6918, Holy H6918, is the LORD H3068 of armies H6635.
The [fn]whole H3605 earth H776 is full H4393 of His glory H3519.”
4 And the [fn]foundations H520 of the thresholds H5592 trembled H5128 at the voice H6963 of him who called H7121 out H7121, while the [fn]temple H1004 was filling H4390 with smoke H6227. 5 Then I said H559,
“Woe H188 to me, for I am ruined H1820!
Because H3588 I am a man H376 of unclean H2931 lips H8193,
And I live H3427 among H8432 a people H5971 of unclean H2931 lips H8193;
For my eyes H5869 have seen H7200 the King H4428, the LORD H3068 of armies H6635.”
6 Then one H259 of the seraphim H8314 flew H5774 to me with a burning H7531 coal H7531 in his hand H3027, which he had taken H3947 from the altar H4196 with tongs H4457. 7 He touched H5060 my mouth H6310 with it and said H559, “Behold H2009, this H2088 has touched H5060 your lips H8193; and your guilt H5771 is taken H5493 away H5493 and atonement H3722 is made H3722 for your sin H2403.”
Isaiah’s Commission
8 Then I heard H8085 the voice H6963 of the Lord H136, saying H559, “Whom H4310 shall I send H7971, and who H4310 will go H1980 for Us?” Then I said H559, “Here H2009 am I. Send H7971 me!” 9 And He said H559, “Go H1980, and tell H559 this H2088 people H5971:
‘Keep H8085 on listening H8085, but do not understand H995;
And keep H7200 on looking H7200, but do not gain H3045 knowledge H3045.’
10 “Make H8080 the hearts H3820 of this H2088 people H5971 [fn]insensitive H8080,
Their ears H241 [fn]dull H3513,
And their eyes H5869 [fn]blind H8173,
So H6435 that H6435 they will not H6435 see H7200 with their eyes H5869,
Hear H8085 with their ears H241,
Understand H995 with their hearts H3824,
And return H7725 and be healed H7495.”
11 Then I said H559, “Lord H136, how H4970 long H5704 H4970?” And He answered H559,
“Until H5704 H834 H518 cities H5892 are devastated H7582 and without H369 inhabitant H3427,
Houses H1004 are without H369 people H120
And the land H127 is utterly H8077 desolate H8077,
12 The LORD H3068 has completely H7368 removed H7368 people H120,
And there [fn]are H7231 many H7231 forsaken H5805 places H5805 in the midst H7130 of the land H776.
13 “Yet there will still H5750 be a tenth H6224 portion H6224 in it,
And it will again H7725 be subject to burning H1197,
Like a terebinth H424 or an oak H437
Whose H834 stump H4676 remains when H834 it is cut H7995 down H7995.
