Micah’s Idolatry
1 Now there was a man H376 of the hill H2022 country H2022 of Ephraim H669 whose name H8034 was Micah H4321.
2 And he said H559 to his mother H517, “The 1,100 H505 H3967 pieces of silver H3701 that were taken H3947 from you, about which you uttered H422 a H422 curse H422 and also spoke it in my hearing H241, behold H2009, the silver H3701 is with me; I took H3947 it.” And his mother H517 said H559, “Blessed H1288 be my son H1121 by the LORD H3068.” 3 He then returned H7725 the 1,100 H505 H3967 pieces of silver H3701 to his mother H517, and his mother H517 said H559, “I wholly H6942 consecrate H6942 the silver H3701 from my hand H3027 to the LORD H3068 for my son H1121 to make H6213 a carved H6459 image H6459 and a cast H4541 metal H4541 image H4541; so now H6258 I will return H7725 [fn]them to you.” 4 So when he returned H7725 the silver H3701 to his mother H517, his mother H517 took H3947 two hundred H3967 pieces of silver H3701 and gave H5414 them to the silversmith H6884, who made H6213 [fn]them into a carved H6459 image H6459 and a cast H4541 metal H4541 image H4541, and [fn]they were in the house H1004 of Micah H4321. 5 And the man H376 Micah H4318 had a [fn]shrine H1004 H430 and he made H6213 an ephod H646 and [fn]household H8655 idols H8655, and [fn]consecrated H4390 H3027 one H259 of his sons H1121, so that he might become H1961 his priest H3548. 6 In those H1992 days H3117 there H369 was H369 no H369 king H4428 in Israel H3478; everyone H376 did H6213 what H3477 was H3477 right H3477 in his own eyes H5869.
7 Now there was a young H5288 man H5288 from Bethlehem H1035 in Judah H3063, of the family H4940 of Judah H3063, who H1931 was a Levite H3881; and he was [fn]staying H1481 there H8033. 8 Then the man H376 left H1980 the city H5892, Bethlehem H1035 in Judah H3063, to [fn]stay H1481 wherever H834 he would find H4672 a place; and as he made H6213 his journey H1870, he came H935 to the hill H2022 country H2022 of Ephraim H669, to the house H1004 of Micah H4318. 9 Micah H4318 said H559 to him, “Where H370 do you come H935 from?” And he said H559 to him, “I am a Levite H3881 from Bethlehem H1035 in Judah H3063, and I am going H1980 to [fn]stay H1481 wherever H834 I may find H4672 a place.” 10 Micah H4318 then said H559 to him, “Stay H3427 with me and be a father H1 and a priest H3548 to me, and I will give H5414 you ten H6235 pieces of silver H3701 a year H3117, a supply H6187 of clothing H899, and your sustenance H4241.” So the Levite H3881 went H1980 in. 11 The Levite H3881 agreed H2974 to live H3427 with the man H376, and the young H5288 man H5288 became H1961 to him like one H259 of his sons H1121. 12 So Micah H4318 [fn]consecrated H4390 H3027 the Levite H3881, and the young H5288 man H5288 became H1961 his priest H3548 and [fn]lived H1961 in the house H1004 of Micah H4318. 13 Then Micah H4318 said H559, “Now H6258 I know H3045 that the LORD H3068 will prosper H3190 me, because H3588 I have H1961 a Levite H3881 as a priest H3548.”
