Distresses Foretold

1 The word ^H1697 of the LORD ^H3068 also came ^H1961 to me, saying ^H559,

2 “You shall not take a wife ^H802 for yourself nor ^H3808 have ^H1961 sons ^H1121 or daughters ^H1323 in this ^H2088 place ^H4725.” 3 For this ^H3541 is ^H3541 what ^H3541 the LORD ^H3068 says ^H559 concerning ^H5921 the sons ^H1121 and daughters ^H1323 born ^H3209 in this ^H2088 place ^H4725, and concerning ^H5921 their mothers ^H517 who give ^H3205 birth ^H3205 to them, and their fathers ^H1 who father ^H3205 them in ^H3205 this ^H2088 land ^H776: 4 “They will die ^H4191 of deadly ^H4463 diseases ^H8463, they will not be mourned ^H5594 or buried ^H6912; they will be like dung ^H1828 on the surface ^H6440 of the ground ^H127. And they will perish ^H3615 by sword ^H2719 and famine ^H7458, and their dead ^H5038 bodies ^H5038 will become ^H1961 food ^H3978 for the birds ^H5775 of the sky ^H8064 and for the animals ^H929 of the earth ^H776.”

5 For this ^H3541 is ^H3541 what ^H3541 the LORD ^H3068 says ^H559: “Do not enter ^H935 a house ^H1004 of mourning ^H4798, or go ^H1980 to mourn ^H5594 or to console ^H5110 them; for I have withdrawn ^H622 My peace ^H7965 from this ^H2088 people ^H5971,” declares ^H5002 the LORD ^H3068, “and My favor ^H2617 and compassion ^H7356. 6 Both great ^H1419 people ^H1419 and small ^H6996 will die ^H4191 in this ^H2088 land ^H776; they will not be buried ^H6912, people will not mourn ^H5594 for them, nor ^H3808 will anyone make ^H1413 cuts ^H1413 on himself or have his head ^H7139 shaved ^H7139 for them. 7 People will not break ^H6536 bread in mourning ^H60 for them, to comfort ^H5162 anyone for the dead ^H4191, nor ^H3808 give ^H8248 them a cup ^H3563 of consolation ^H8575 to ^H8248 drink ^H8248 for anyone’s father ^H1 or mother ^H517. 8 Moreover, you shall not go ^H935 into a house ^H1004 of feasting ^H4960 to sit ^H3427 with them to eat ^H398 and drink ^H8354.” 9 For this ^H3541 is ^H3541 what ^H3541 the LORD ^H3068 of armies ^H6635, the God ^H430 of Israel ^H3478 says ^H559: “Behold ^H2009, I am going to eliminate ^H7673 from this ^H2088 place ^H4725, before your eyes ^H5869 and in your time ^H3117, the voice ^H6963 of rejoicing ^H8342 and the voice ^H6963 of joy ^H8057, the voice ^H6963 of the groom ^H2860 and the voice ^H6963 of the bride ^H3618.

10 “Now it will happen ^H1961 that, when ^H3588 you tell ^H5046 this ^H2088 people ^H5971 all ^H3605 these ^H428 words ^H1697, they will say ^H559 to you, ‘For ^H5921 what ^H4100 reason ^H5921 H4100 has the LORD ^H3068 declared ^H1696 all ^H3605 this ^H2088 great ^H1419 disaster ^H7451 against ^H5921 us? And what ^H4100 is our wrongdoing ^H5771, or what ^H4100 is our sin ^H2403 that we have committed ^H2398 against the LORD ^H3068 our God ^H430?’ 11 Then you are to say ^H559 to them, ‘It is because ^H5921 H834 your forefathers ^H1 have abandoned ^H5800 Me,’ declares ^H5002 the LORD ^H3068, ‘and have followed ^H1980 H310 other ^H312 gods ^H430, and served ^H5647 and worshiped ^H2331 them; but they have abandoned ^H5800 Me and have not kept ^H8104 My Law ^H8451. 12 You too have done ^H6213 evil ^H7451, even more ^H4480 than ^H4480 your forefathers ^H1; for behold ^H2009, each ^H376 one ^H376 of you is following ^H1980 H310 the stubbornness ^H8307 of his own evil ^H7451 heart ^H3820, without ^H1115 listening ^H8085 to Me. 13 So I will hurl ^H2904 you off ^H4480 H5921 this ^H2088 land ^H776 to the land ^H776 which ^H834 you have not known ^H3045, neither you nor ^H3808 your fathers ^H1; and there ^H8033 you will serve ^H5647 other ^H312 gods ^H430 day ^H3119 and night ^H3915, because ^H834 I will show ^H5414 you no ^H3808 compassion ^H2594.’

God Will Restore Them

14 “Therefore ^H3651 behold ^H2009, days ^H3117 are coming ^H935,” declares ^H5002 the LORD ^H3068, “when it will no ^H3808 longer ^H5750 be said ^H559, ‘As the LORD ^H3068 lives ^H2416, who ^H834 brought ^H5927 up ^H5927 the sons ^H1121 of Israel ^H3478 out of the land ^H776 of Egypt ^H4714,’

15 but, ‘As the LORD ^H3068 lives ^H2416, who ^H834 brought ^H5927 up ^H5927 the sons ^H1121 of Israel ^H3478 from the land ^H776 of the north ^H6828 and from all ^H3605 the lands ^H776 where ^H834 H8033 He had banished ^H5080 them.’ For I will restore ^H7725 them to their own land ^H127 which ^H834 I gave ^H5414 to their fathers ^H1.

16 “Behold ^H2009, I am going to send ^H7971 for many ^H7227 fishermen ^H1728,” declares ^H5002 the LORD ^H3068, “and they will fish ^H1770 for them; and afterward ^H310 H3651 I will send ^H7971 for many ^H7227 hunters ^H6719, and they will hunt ^H6679 them from every ^H3605 mountain ^H2022 and every ^H3605 hill ^H1389 and from the clefts ^H5357 of the rocks ^H5553. 17 For My eyes ^H5869 are on all ^H3605 their ways ^H1870; they are not hidden ^H5641 from My face ^H6440, nor ^H3808 is their wrongdoing ^H5771 concealed ^H6845 from My eyes ^H5869. 18 I will first ^H7223 repay ^H7999 them double ^H4932 for their wrongdoing ^H5771 and their sin ^H2403, because ^H5921 they have defiled ^H2490 My land ^H776; they have filled ^H4390 My inheritance ^H5159 with the carcasses ^H5038 of their detestable ^H8251 idols ^H8251 and their abominations ^H8441.”

19 LORD ^H3068, my strength ^H5797 and my stronghold ^H4581,

And my refuge ^H4498 in the day ^H3117 of distress ^H6869,

To You the nations ^H1471 will come ^H935

From the ends ^H657 of the earth ^H776 and say ^H559,

“Our fathers ^H1 have inherited ^H5157 nothing ^H389 but ^H389 falsehood ^H8267,

Futility ^H1892, and [fn]things of no ^H369 benefit ^H3276.”

20 Can a person ^H120 make ^H6213 gods ^H430 for himself?

But they are not gods ^H430!

21 “Therefore ^H3651 behold ^H2009, I am going to make them know ^H3045—

This ^H2088 time ^H6471 I will make them know ^H3045

My [fn]power ^H3027 and My might ^H1369;

And they will know ^H3045 that My name ^H8034 is the LORD ^H3068.”
