Warning against Going to Egypt

1 Then all ^H3605 the commanders ^H8269 of the forces ^H2428, Johanan ^H3076 the son ^H1121 of Kareah ^H7143, Jezaniah ^H3153 the son ^H1121 of Hoshaiah ^H1955, and all ^H3605 the people ^H5971 from the small ^H6996 to the great ^H1419 approached ^H5066

2 and said ^H559 to Jeremiah ^H3414 the prophet ^H5030, “Please ^H4994 let our pleading ^H8467 [fn]come ^H5307 before ^H6440 you, and pray ^H6419 for us to the LORD ^H3068 your God ^H430 for all ^H3605 this ^H2088 remnant ^H7611—since ^H3588 we have been left ^H7604 only a few ^H4592 out of many ^H7235, just ^H834 as ^H834 your own eyes ^H5869 now see ^H7200 us— 3 that the LORD ^H3068 your God ^H430 will tell ^H5046 us the way ^H1870 in which ^H834 we should walk ^H1980, and the thing ^H1697 that we should do ^H6213.” 4 Then Jeremiah ^H3414 the prophet ^H5030 said ^H559 to them, “I have heard ^H8085 you. Behold ^H2009, I am going to pray ^H6419 to the LORD ^H3068 your God ^H430 in accordance with your words ^H1697; and I will tell ^H5046 you the whole ^H3605 [fn]message ^H1697 which ^H834 the LORD ^H3068 gives ^H6030 you as an answer ^H6030. I will not withhold ^H4513 a word ^H1697 from you.” 5 Then they said ^H559 to Jeremiah ^H3414, “May the LORD ^H3068 be a true ^H571 and faithful ^H539 witness ^H5707 against us if ^H518 we do not act ^H6213 in accordance with the whole ^H3605 [fn]message ^H1697 with which ^H834 the LORD ^H3068 your God ^H430 will send ^H7971 you to us. 6 Whether ^H518 it is [fn]pleasant ^H2896 or ^H518 [fn]unpleasant ^H7451, we will listen ^H8085 to the voice ^H6963 of the LORD ^H3068 our God ^H430 to whom ^H834 we are sending ^H7971 you, so ^H4616 that ^H4616 it may go ^H3190 well ^H3190 for us when ^H3588 we listen ^H8085 to the voice ^H6963 of the LORD ^H3068 our God ^H430.”

7 Now at the end ^H7093 of ten ^H6235 days ^H3117 the word ^H1697 of the LORD ^H3068 came ^H1961 to Jeremiah ^H3414. 8 Then he called ^H7121 for Johanan ^H3076 the son ^H1121 of Kareah ^H7143 and all ^H3605 the commanders ^H8269 of the forces ^H2428 that were with him, and for all ^H3605 the people ^H5971 from the small ^H6996 to the great ^H1419, 9 and said ^H559 to them, “This ^H3541 is ^H3541 what ^H3541 the LORD ^H3068 says ^H559, the God ^H430 of Israel ^H3478, to whom ^H834 you sent ^H7971 me to present ^H5307 your plea ^H8467 before ^H6440 Him: 10 ‘If ^H518 you will indeed ^H3427 stay ^H3427 in this ^H2088 land ^H776, then I will build ^H1129 you up ^H1129 and not tear ^H2040 you down ^H2040, and I will plant ^H5193 you and not uproot ^H5428 you; for I [fn]will relent ^H5162 of the disaster ^H7451 that I have inflicted ^H6213 on you. 11 Do not be ^H3372 afraid ^H3372 of the king ^H4428 of Babylon ^H894, whom ^H834 you are now fearing ^H3372; do not be ^H3372 afraid ^H3372 of him,’ declares ^H5002 the LORD ^H3068, ‘for I am with you to save ^H3467 you and rescue ^H5337 you from his hand ^H3027. 12 I will also show ^H5414 you compassion ^H7356, so that he will have ^H7355 compassion ^H7355 on ^H7355 you and restore ^H7725 you to your own soil ^H127. 13 But if ^H518 you are going to say ^H559, “We will not stay ^H3427 in this ^H2088 land ^H776,” so as not to listen ^H8085 to the voice ^H6963 of the LORD ^H3068 your God ^H430, 14 saying ^H559, “No ^H3808, but we will go ^H935 to the land ^H776 of Egypt ^H4714, where ^H834 we will not see ^H7200 war ^H4421, or hear ^H8085 the sound ^H6963 of a trumpet ^H7782, or hunger ^H7456 for bread ^H3899, and we will stay ^H3427 there ^H8033”; 15 then [fn]in that case ^H6258 H3651 listen ^H8085 to the word ^H1697 of the LORD ^H3068, you remnant ^H7611 of Judah ^H3063. 18 For this ^H3541 is ^H3541 what ^H3541 the LORD ^H3068 of armies ^H6635, the God ^H430 of Israel ^H3478 says ^H559: “As My anger ^H639 and wrath ^H2534 have gushed ^H5413 out ^H5413 on the inhabitants ^H3427 of Jerusalem ^H3389, so ^H3651 My wrath ^H2534 will gush ^H5413 out ^H5413 on you when you enter ^H935 Egypt ^H4714. And you will become ^H1961 a curse ^H423, an object ^H8047 of ^H8047 horror ^H8047, [fn]an imprecation ^H7045, and a disgrace ^H2781; and you will not see ^H7200 this ^H2088 place ^H4725 again ^H5750.” 19 The LORD ^H3068 has spoken ^H1696 to you, you remnant ^H7611 of Judah ^H3063, “Do not go ^H935 to Egypt ^H4714!” You know ^H3045 for ^H3045 certain ^H3045 that I have admonished ^H5749 you today ^H3117. 20 For you have only [fn]deceived ^H8582 yourselves ^H5315; for it is you who sent ^H7971 me to the LORD ^H3068 your God ^H430, saying ^H559, “Pray ^H6419 for us to the LORD ^H3068 our God ^H430; and whatever ^H3605 H834 the LORD ^H3068 our God ^H430 says ^H559, tell ^H5046 us so ^H3651, and we will do ^H6213 it.” 21 So I have told ^H5046 you today ^H3117, but you have not [fn]obeyed ^H8085 H6963 the LORD ^H3068 your God ^H430 in whatever ^H3605 H834 He has sent ^H7971 me to tell you. 22 And now ^H6258 you shall know ^H3045 for ^H3045 certain ^H3045 that you will die ^H4191 by the sword ^H2719, by famine ^H7458, or by plague ^H1698 in the place ^H4725 where ^H834 H8033 you desire ^H2654 to go ^H935 to reside ^H1481.
