Defeat of Pharaoh Foretold

1 That which ^H834 came ^H1961 as the word ^H1697 of the LORD ^H3068 to Jeremiah ^H3414 the prophet ^H5030 concerning ^H5921 the nations ^H1471.

2 To Egypt ^H4714, concerning ^H5921 the army ^H2428 of Pharaoh ^H6549 Neco ^H6549 king ^H4428 of Egypt ^H4714, which ^H834 was by the river ^H5104 Euphrates ^H6578 at Carchemish ^H3751, which ^H834 Nebuchadnezzar ^H5019 king ^H4428 of Babylon ^H894 defeated ^H5221 in the fourth ^H7243 year ^H8141 of Jehoiakim ^H3079 the son ^H1121 of Josiah ^H2977, king ^H4428 of Judah ^H3063:

3 “Set ^H6186 up ^H6186 the [fn]buckler ^H4043 and shield ^H6793,

And advance ^H5066 to the battle ^H4421!

4 “Harness ^H631 the horses ^H5483,

And [fn]mount ^H5927 the steeds ^H6571,

Take ^H3320 your stand ^H3320 with helmets ^H3553 on!

Polish ^H4838 the spears ^H7420,

Put ^H3847 on ^H3847 the coats ^H5630 of ^H5630 armor ^H5630!

5 “Why ^H4069 have I seen ^H7200 it?

They are terrified ^H2844,

They are retreating ^H5472 H268,

And their warriors ^H1368 are defeated ^H3807

And have taken ^H5127 refuge ^H5127 in flight ^H4498,

Without ^H3808 facing ^H6437 back ^H6437.

[fn]Terror ^H4032 is on every ^H5439 side ^H5439!”

Declares ^H5002 the LORD ^H3068.

6 Let not the swift ^H7031 man ^H7031 flee ^H5127,

Nor ^H408 the warrior ^H1368 escape ^H4422.

In the north ^H6828 beside ^H5921 H3027 the river ^H5104 Euphrates ^H6578

They have stumbled ^H3782 and fallen ^H5307.

7 Who ^H4310 is this ^H2088 that rises ^H5927 like the Nile ^H2975,

Like the rivers ^H5104 whose waters ^H4325 surge ^H1607?

8 Egypt ^H4714 rises ^H5927 like the Nile ^H2975,

And like the rivers ^H5104 whose waters ^H4325 surge ^H1607;

And He has said ^H559, “I will rise ^H5927 and cover ^H3680 that land ^H776;

I will destroy ^H6 the city ^H5892 and its inhabitants ^H3427.”

9 Go ^H5927 up ^H5927, you horses ^H5483, and [fn]drive ^H1984 wildly ^H1984, you chariots ^H7393,

So that the warriors ^H1368 may [fn]march ^H3318 forward ^H3318:

[fn]Cush ^H3568 and [fn]Put ^H6316, who handle ^H8610 the shield ^H4043,

And the [fn]Lydians ^H3866, who handle ^H8610 and bend ^H1869 the bow ^H7198.

A day ^H3117 of vengeance ^H5360, so as to avenge ^H5358 Himself on His foes ^H6862;

And the sword ^H2719 will devour ^H398 and be ^H7646 satisfied ^H7646,

And [fn]drink ^H7301 its fill ^H7301 of their blood ^H1818;

For there will be a slaughter ^H2077 for the Lord ^H136 [fn]GOD ^H3068 of armies ^H6635,

In the land ^H776 of the north ^H6828 at the river ^H5104 Euphrates ^H6578.

11 Go ^H5927 up ^H5927 to Gilead ^H1568 and obtain ^H3947 balm ^H6875,

Virgin ^H1330 daughter ^H1323 of Egypt ^H4714!

You have used ^H7235 many ^H7235 [fn]remedies ^H7499 in vain ^H7723;

There ^H369 is ^H369 no ^H369 healing ^H8585 for you.

12 The nations ^H1471 have heard ^H8085 of your shame ^H7036,

And the earth ^H776 is full ^H4390 of your cry ^H6682 of distress;

For one warrior ^H1368 has stumbled ^H3782 over [fn]another ^H1368,

And both ^H8147 of them have fallen ^H5307 down ^H5307 together ^H3162.

13 This is the [fn]message ^H1697 which ^H834 the LORD ^H3068 spoke ^H1696 to Jeremiah ^H3414 the prophet ^H5030 about the coming ^H935 of Nebuchadnezzar ^H5019 king ^H4428 of Babylon ^H894 to strike ^H5221 the land ^H776 of Egypt ^H4714:

14 “Declare ^H5046 in Egypt ^H4714 and proclaim ^H8085 in Migdol ^H4024,

Proclaim ^H8085 also in Memphis ^H5297 and Tahpanhes ^H8471;

Say ^H559, ‘Take ^H3320 your stand ^H3320 and get ^H3559 yourself ready ^H3559,

For the sword ^H2719 has devoured ^H398 those around ^H5439 you.’

15 “Why ^H4069 have your powerful ^H47 ones ^H47 been cut ^H5502 down ^H5502?

They do not stand ^H5975 because ^H3588 the LORD ^H3068 has thrust ^H1920 them away ^H1920.

16 “They have repeatedly ^H7235 stumbled ^H3782;

Indeed ^H1571, they have fallen ^H5307, one ^H376 against ^H413 another ^H7453.

Then they said ^H559, ‘Get ^H6965 up ^H6965, and let’s go ^H7725 back ^H7725

To our own people ^H5971 and our native ^H4138 land ^H776,

Away from the [fn]sword ^H2719 of the oppressor ^H3238!’

17 “[fn]They shouted ^H7121 there ^H8033, ‘Pharaoh ^H6547 king ^H4428 of Egypt ^H4714 is nothing but a big ^H7588 noise ^H7588;

He has let the appointed ^H4150 time ^H4150 pass ^H5674 by ^H5674!’

18 “As I live ^H2416,” declares ^H5002 the King ^H4428,

Whose name ^H8034 is the LORD ^H3068 of armies ^H6635,

“One certainly ^H3588 shall come ^H935 who is like Tabor ^H8396 among the mountains ^H2022,

Or like Carmel ^H3760 by the sea ^H3220.

19 “Make ^H6213 your baggage ^H3627 ready for exile ^H1473,

Daughter ^H1323 living ^H3427 in Egypt ^H4714,

For Memphis ^H5297 will become ^H1961 a desolation ^H8047;

It will be destroyed ^H3341 and [fn]deprived ^H4480 H369 of inhabitants ^H3427.

20 “Egypt ^H4714 is a pretty ^H3304 heifer ^H5697,

But a [fn]horsefly ^H7171 is coming ^H935 from the north ^H6828—it is coming ^H935!

21 “Also ^H1571 her mercenaries ^H7917 in her midst ^H7130

Are like fattened ^H4770 calves ^H5695,

For they too ^H1571 have turned ^H6437 away ^H6437 and have fled ^H5127 together ^H3162;

They did not stand ^H5975 their ground.

For the day ^H3117 of their disaster ^H343 has come ^H935 upon them,

The time ^H6256 of their punishment ^H6486.

22 “Its sound ^H6963 moves ^H1980 along like a serpent ^H5175;

For they move ^H1980 on [fn]like an army ^H2428

And come ^H935 to her as woodcutters ^H2404 with axes ^H7134.

23 “They have cut ^H3772 down ^H3772 her forest ^H3293,” declares ^H5002 the LORD ^H3068;

“Certainly ^H3588 it will no ^H3808 longer be found ^H2713,

24 “The daughter ^H1323 of Egypt ^H4714 has been put ^H954 to ^H954 shame ^H954,

25 The LORD ^H3068 of armies ^H6635, the God ^H430 of Israel ^H3478 says ^H559: “Behold ^H2009, I am going to punish ^H6485 Amon ^H528 of Thebes ^H4996, and Pharaoh ^H6547, and Egypt ^H4714 along with her gods ^H430 and her kings ^H4428, indeed, Pharaoh ^H6547 and those who trust ^H982 in him.

26 I shall hand ^H5414 H3027 them over ^H5414 to those who are seeking ^H1245 their lives ^H5315, that is, to Nebuchadnezzar ^H5019 king ^H4428 of Babylon ^H894 and to his [fn]officers ^H5650. Afterward ^H310 H3651, however, it will be inhabited ^H7931 as in the days ^H3117 of old ^H6924,” declares ^H5002 the LORD ^H3068.

27 “But as for you, Jacob ^H3290 My servant ^H5650, do not fear ^H3372,

Nor ^H408 be dismayed ^H2865, Israel ^H3478!

For, see ^H2009, I am going to save ^H3467 you from far ^H7350 away ^H7350,

And your descendants ^H2233 from the land ^H776 of their captivity ^H7628;

And Jacob ^H3290 will return ^H7725 and be ^H8252 undisturbed ^H8252

And secure ^H7599, with no ^H369 one ^H369 making him afraid ^H2729.

28 “Jacob ^H3290 My servant ^H5650, do not fear ^H3372,” declares ^H5002 the LORD ^H3068,

“For I am with you.

For I will make ^H6213 a complete ^H3617 destruction ^H3617 of all ^H3605 the nations ^H1471

Where ^H834 H8033 I have driven ^H5080 you,

Yet I will not make ^H6213 a complete ^H3617 destruction ^H3617 of you;

But I will correct ^H3256 you properly ^H4941

And by ^H5352 no ^H3808 means ^H5352 leave ^H5352 you unpunished ^H5352.”
