The Prophecy from Peor

1 When Balaam ^H1109 saw ^H7200 that it [fn]pleased ^H2895 H5869 the LORD ^H3068 to bless ^H1288 Israel ^H3478, he did not go ^H1980 as at other ^H6471 times ^H6471 to [fn]seek ^H7122 omens ^H5173, rather he turned ^H7896 his [fn]attention ^H6440 toward ^H413 the wilderness ^H4057.

2 And Balaam ^H1109 raised ^H5375 his eyes ^H5869 and saw ^H7200 Israel ^H3478 [fn]camping ^H7931 tribe ^H7626 by tribe ^H7626; and the Spirit ^H7307 of God ^H430 came ^H1961 upon him. 3 Then he took ^H5375 up ^H5375 his discourse ^H4912 and said ^H559,

“The declaration ^H5002 of Balaam ^H1109 the son ^H1121 of Beor ^H1160,

And the declaration ^H5002 of the man ^H1397 whose eye ^H5869 is opened ^H8365;

4 The declaration ^H5002 of him who hears ^H8085 the [fn]words ^H561 of God ^H410,

Who ^H834 sees ^H2372 the vision ^H4236 of [fn]the Almighty ^H7706,

Falling ^H5307 down ^H5307, yet having his eyes ^H5869 uncovered ^H1540,

5 How ^H4100 pleasant ^H2895 are your tents ^H168, Jacob ^H3290,

Your dwelling ^H4908 places ^H4908, Israel ^H3478!

6 “Like [fn]valleys ^H5158 that stretch ^H5186 out ^H5186,

Like gardens ^H1593 beside ^H5921 a river ^H5104,

Like aloes ^H174 planted ^H5193 by the LORD ^H3068,

Like cedars ^H730 beside ^H5921 the waters ^H4325.

7 “Water ^H4325 will flow ^H5140 from his buckets ^H1805,

And his seed ^H2233 will be by many ^H7227 waters ^H4325,

And his king ^H4428 shall be ^H7311 higher ^H7311 than ^H4480 Agag ^H90,

And his kingdom ^H4438 shall be exalted ^H5375.

8 “God ^H410 brings ^H3318 him out ^H3318 of Egypt ^H4714,

He is for him like the horns ^H8443 of the wild ^H7214 ox ^H7214.

He will devour ^H398 the nations ^H1471 who are his adversaries ^H6862,

And will crush ^H1633 their bones ^H6106,

And smash ^H4272 them with his arrows ^H2671.

9 “He [fn]crouches ^H3766, he lies ^H7901 down ^H7901 like a lion ^H738,

And like a lioness ^H3833, who ^H4310 [fn]dares to rouse ^H6965 him?

Blessed ^H1288 is everyone who blesses ^H1288 you,

And cursed ^H779 is everyone who curses ^H779 you.”

10 Then Balak’s ^H1111 anger ^H639 burned ^H2734 against ^H413 Balaam ^H1109, and he struck ^H5606 his [fn]hands ^H3709 together ^H5606; and Balak ^H1111 said ^H559 to Balaam ^H1109, “I called ^H7121 you to curse ^H6895 my enemies ^H340, but behold ^H2009, you have persisted ^H1288 in blessing ^H1288 them these ^H2088 three ^H7969 times ^H6471! 11 So [fn]flee ^H1272 to your place ^H4725 now ^H6258. I said ^H559 I would honor ^H3513 you greatly ^H3513, but behold ^H2009, the LORD ^H3068 has held ^H4513 you back ^H4513 from honor ^H3519.” 12 And Balaam ^H1109 said ^H559 to Balak ^H1111, “Did I not in ^H1571 fact ^H1571 tell ^H1696 your messengers ^H4397 whom ^H834 you had sent ^H7971 to me, saying ^H559, 13 ‘If ^H518 Balak ^H1111 were to give ^H5414 me his house ^H1004 full ^H4393 of silver ^H3701 and gold ^H2091, I could ^H3201 not do ^H6213 anything contrary ^H5674 to the [fn]command ^H6310 of the LORD ^H3068, either good ^H2896 or ^H176 bad ^H7451, of my own [fn]accord ^H3820. What ^H834 the LORD ^H3068 speaks ^H1696, I will [fn]speak ^H1696’? 14 So now ^H6258, behold ^H2009, I am going ^H1980 to my people ^H5971; come ^H1980, and I will advise ^H3289 you of what ^H834 this ^H2088 people ^H5971 will do ^H6213 to your people ^H5971 in the [fn]days ^H3117 to come ^H319.”

15 Then he took ^H5375 up ^H5375 his discourse ^H4912 and said ^H559,

“The declaration ^H5002 of Balaam ^H1109 the son ^H1121 of Beor ^H1160,

And the declaration ^H5002 of the man ^H1397 whose eye ^H5869 is opened ^H8365,

16 The declaration ^H5002 of him who hears ^H8085 the [fn]words ^H561 of God ^H410,

And knows ^H3045 the knowledge ^H1847 of the [fn]Most ^H5945 High ^H5945,

Who sees ^H2372 the vision ^H4236 of [fn]the Almighty ^H7706,

Falling ^H5307 down ^H5307, yet having his eyes ^H5869 uncovered ^H1540:

17 I see ^H7200 him, but not now ^H6258;

I look ^H7789 at ^H7789 him, but not near ^H7138;

A star ^H3556 shall appear ^H1869 from Jacob ^H3290,

A scepter ^H7626 shall rise ^H6965 from Israel ^H3478,

And shall smash ^H4272 the [fn]forehead ^H6285 of Moab ^H4124,

And overcome ^H6979 all ^H3605 the sons ^H1121 of Sheth ^H8352.

18 “And Edom ^H123 shall be a possession ^H3423,

Seir ^H8165, its enemies ^H340, also will be a possession ^H3423,

While Israel ^H3478 performs ^H6213 valiantly ^H2428.

19 “One from Jacob ^H3290 shall rule ^H7287,

And will eliminate ^H6 the survivors ^H8300 from the city ^H5892.”

20 And he looked ^H7200 at Amalek ^H6002 and took ^H5375 up ^H5375 his discourse ^H4912 and said ^H559,

“Amalek ^H6002 was the first ^H7225 of the nations ^H1471,

But his end ^H319 shall be [fn]destruction ^H8.”

21 And he looked ^H7200 at the Kenite ^H7017, and took ^H5375 up ^H5375 his discourse ^H4912 and said ^H559,

“Your dwelling ^H4186 place ^H4186 is enduring ^H386,

And your nest ^H7064 is set ^H7760 in the cliff ^H5553.

22 “Nevertheless ^H3588 H518 Kain ^H7014 will suffer ^H1197 devastation ^H1197;

How ^H4100 long ^H5704 will Asshur ^H804 [fn]keep ^H7617 you captive ^H7617?”

23 Then he took ^H5375 up ^H5375 his discourse ^H4912 and said ^H559,

“Oh ^H188, who ^H4310 can live ^H2421 unless ^H4480 God ^H410 has ordained ^H7760 it?

24 “But ships ^H6716 shall come from the coast ^H3027 of Kittim ^H3794,

And they shall oppress ^H6031 Asshur ^H804 and oppress ^H6031 Eber ^H5677;

So they also ^H1571 will come to destruction ^H8.”

25 Then Balaam ^H1109 arose ^H6965, and he departed ^H1980 and returned ^H7725 to his place ^H4725, and Balak ^H1111 also ^H1571 went ^H1980 on his way ^H1870.
