PSALM 40

God Sustains His Servant.

For the music director. A Psalm of David.

1 I waited ^H6960 [fn]patiently ^H6960 for the LORD ^H3068;

And He reached ^H5186 down ^H5186 to me and heard ^H8085 my cry ^H7775.

2 He brought ^H5927 me up ^H5927 out of the pit ^H953 of [fn]destruction ^H7588, out of the mud ^H3121;

And He set ^H6965 my feet ^H7272 on a rock ^H5553, making ^H3559 my footsteps ^H838 firm ^H3559.

3 He put ^H5414 a new ^H2319 song ^H7892 in my mouth ^H6310, a song ^H8416 of ^H8416 praise ^H8416 to our God ^H430;

Many ^H7227 will see ^H7200 and fear ^H3372

And will trust ^H982 in the LORD ^H3068.

4 How blessed ^H835 is the man ^H1397 who ^H834 has made ^H7760 the LORD ^H3068 his trust ^H4009,

And has not turned ^H6437 to the [fn]proud ^H7295, nor to those who become ^H7750 involved ^H7750 in falsehood ^H3577.

5 Many ^H7227, LORD ^H3068 my God ^H430, are the wonders ^H6381 which You have done ^H6213,

And Your thoughts ^H4284 toward ^H413 us;

There ^H369 is ^H369 no ^H369 one ^H369 to compare ^H6186 with You.

If I would declare ^H5046 and speak ^H1696 of them,

They would be ^H6105 too ^H4480 numerous ^H6105 to count ^H5608.

6 You have not desired ^H2654 [fn]sacrifice ^H2077 and meal ^H4503 offering ^H4503;

You have [fn]opened ^H3738 my ears ^H241;

You have not required ^H7592 burnt ^H5930 offering ^H5930 and sin ^H2401 offering ^H2401.

7 Then ^H227 I said ^H559, “Behold ^H2009, I have come ^H935;

It is [fn]written ^H3789 of me in the scroll ^H4039 of the book ^H5612.

8 “I delight ^H2654 to do ^H6213 Your will ^H7522, my God ^H430;

Your Law ^H8451 is within ^H8432 my [fn]heart ^H4578.”

9 I have proclaimed ^H1319 good ^H1319 news ^H1319 of righteousness ^H6664 in the great ^H7227 congregation ^H6951;

Behold ^H2009, I will not restrain ^H3607 my lips ^H8193,

LORD ^H3068, You know ^H3045.

10 I have not hidden ^H3680 Your righteousness ^H6666 within ^H8432 my heart ^H3820;

I have spoken ^H559 of Your faithfulness ^H530 and Your salvation ^H8668;

I have not concealed ^H3582 Your mercy ^H2617 and Your truth ^H571 from the great ^H7227 congregation ^H6951.

11 You, LORD ^H3068, will not withhold ^H3607 Your compassion ^H7356 from me;

[fn]Your mercy ^H2617 and Your truth ^H571 will continually ^H8548 watch ^H5341 over ^H5341 me.

12 For evils ^H7451 beyond ^H5704 H369 number ^H4557 have surrounded ^H661 me;

My guilty ^H5771 deeds ^H5771 have overtaken ^H5381 me, so that I am ^H3201 not able ^H3201 to see ^H7200;

13 Be ^H7521 pleased ^H7521, LORD ^H3068, to rescue ^H5337 me;

Hurry ^H2363, LORD ^H3068, to help ^H5833 me.

14 May those be ^H954 ashamed ^H954 and humiliated ^H3637 together ^H3162

Who seek ^H1245 my [fn]life ^H5315 to destroy ^H5595 it;

May those be turned ^H5472 back ^H268 and dishonored ^H3637

Who ^H2655 delight ^H2655 [fn]in my hurt ^H7451.

15 May those be ^H8074 [fn]appalled ^H8074 because ^H5921 H6118 of their shame ^H1322

Who say ^H559 to me, “Aha ^H1889, aha ^H1889!”

16 May all ^H3605 who seek ^H1245 You rejoice ^H7797 and be ^H8055 glad ^H8055 in You;

May those who love ^H157 Your salvation ^H8668 continually ^H8548 say ^H559,

“The LORD ^H3068 be exalted ^H1431!”

17 But I am afflicted ^H6041 and needy ^H34;

May the Lord ^H136 be ^H2803 mindful ^H2803 of me.

You are my help ^H5833 and my savior ^H6403;

Do not delay ^H309, my God ^H430.
