An Interlude

1 After ^G3326 this ^G3778 I saw ^G3708 four ^G5064 angels ^G32 standing ^G2476 at the four ^G5064 corners ^G1137 of the earth ^G1093, holding ^G2902 back ^G2902 the four ^G5064 winds ^G417 of the earth ^G1093 so ^G2443 that ^G2443 no ^G3361 wind ^G417 would blow ^G4154 on the earth ^G1093, or ^G3383 on the sea ^G2281, or ^G3383 on any ^G3956 tree ^G1186.

2 And I saw ^G3708 another ^G243 angel ^G32 ascending ^G305 from the rising ^G395 of the sun ^G2246, holding ^G2192 the seal ^G4973 of the living ^G2198 God ^G2316; and he called ^G2896 out ^G2896 with a loud ^G3173 voice ^G5456 to the four ^G5064 angels ^G32 to whom ^G3739 it was granted ^G1325 to harm ^G91 the earth ^G1093 and the sea ^G2281, 3 saying ^G3004, “Do not harm ^G91 the earth ^G1093, or ^G3383 the sea ^G2281, or ^G3383 the trees ^G1186 until ^G891 we have sealed ^G4972 the bond-servants ^G1401 of our God ^G2316 on their foreheads ^G3359.”

The 144,000

4 And I heard ^G191 the number ^G706 of those ^G3588 who were sealed ^G4972: 144,000 ^{G1540 G5062 G5505}, sealed ^G4972 from every ^G3956 tribe ^G5443 of the sons ^G5207 of Israel ^G2474:

5 from the tribe ^G5443 of Judah ^G2455, twelve ^G1427 thousand ^G5505 were sealed ^G4972, from the tribe ^G5443 of Reuben ^G4502 twelve ^G1427 thousand ^G5505, from the tribe ^G5443 of Gad ^G1045 twelve ^G1427 thousand ^G5505,

6 from the tribe ^G5443 of Asher ^G768 twelve ^G1427 thousand ^G5505, from the tribe ^G5443 of Naphtali ^G3508 twelve ^G1427 thousand ^G5505, from the tribe ^G5443 of Manasseh ^G3128 twelve ^G1427 thousand ^G5505,

7 from the tribe ^G5443 of Simeon ^G4826 twelve ^G1427 thousand ^G5505, from the tribe ^G5443 of Levi ^G3017 twelve ^G1427 thousand ^G5505, from the tribe ^G5443 of Issachar ^G2466 twelve ^G1427 thousand ^G5505,

8 from the tribe ^G5443 of Zebulun ^G2194 twelve ^G1427 thousand ^G5505, from the tribe ^G5443 of Joseph ^G2501 twelve ^G1427 thousand ^G5505, and from the tribe ^G5443 of Benjamin ^G958, twelve ^G1427 thousand ^G5505 were sealed ^G4972.

A Multitude from the Tribulation

9 After ^G3326 these ^G3778 things ^G3778 I looked ^G3708, and behold ^G2400, a great ^G4183 multitude ^G3793 which ^G3739 no ^G3762 one ^G3762 could ^G1410 count ^G705, from every ^G3956 nation ^G1484 and all the tribes ^G5443, peoples ^G2992, and languages ^G1100, standing ^G2476 before ^G1799 the throne ^G2362 and before ^G1799 the Lamb ^G721, clothed ^G4016 in white ^G3022 robes ^G4749, and palm ^G5404 branches ^G5404 were in their hands ^G5495;

10 and they *cried ^G2896 out ^G2896 with a loud ^G3173 voice ^G5456, saying ^G3004,

“Salvation ^G4991 belongs to our God ^G2316 who sits ^G2521 on the throne ^G2362, and to the Lamb ^G721.”

11 And all ^G3956 the angels ^G32 were standing ^G2476 around ^G2945 the throne ^G2362 and around the elders ^G4245 and the four ^G5064 living ^G2226 creatures ^G2226; and they fell ^G4098 on their faces ^G4383 before ^G1799 the throne ^G2362 and worshiped ^G4352 God ^G2316, 12 saying ^G3004,

“Amen ^G281, blessing ^G2129, glory ^G1391, wisdom ^G4678, thanksgiving ^G2169, honor ^G5092, power ^G1411, and might ^G2479 belong to our God ^G2316 forever ^G165 and ever ^G165. Amen ^G281.”

13 Then ^G2532 one ^G1520 of the elders ^G4245 responded ^G611, saying ^G3004 to me, “These ^G3778 who are clothed ^G4016 in the white ^G3022 robes ^G4749, who ^G5101 are they, and where ^G4159 have they come ^G2064 from?” 14 I [fn]said ^G3004 to him, “My lord ^G2962, you know ^G6063.” And he said ^G3004 to me, “These ^G3778 are the ones who come ^G2064 out of the great ^G3173 tribulation ^G2347, and they have washed ^G4150 their robes ^G4749 and made ^G3021 them white ^G3021 in the blood ^G129 of the Lamb ^G721. 15 For this ^G3778 reason ^G1223 they are before ^G1799 the throne ^G2362 of God ^G2316, and they serve ^G3000 Him day ^G2250 and night ^G3571 in His [fn]temple ^G3485; and He who sits ^G2521 on the throne ^G2362 will spread ^G4637 His tabernacle ^G4637 over ^G1909 them. 16 They will no ^G3756 longer ^G2089 hunger ^G3983 nor ^G3761 thirst ^G1372, nor ^G3761 will the sun ^G2246 [fn]beat ^G4098 down ^G4098 on them, nor ^G3761 any ^G3956 scorching ^G2738 heat ^G2738; 17 for the Lamb ^G721 in the center ^G3319 of the throne ^G2362 will be their shepherd ^G4165, and will guide ^G3594 them to springs ^G4077 of the [fn]water ^G5204 of life ^G2222; and God ^G2316 will wipe ^G1813 every ^G3956 tear ^G1144 from their eyes ^G3788.”
