Believers Are Dead to Sin, Alive to God

1 What ^G5101 shall we say ^G3004 then ^G3767? Are we to continue ^G1961 in sin ^G266 so ^G2443 that ^G2443 grace ^G5485 may increase ^G4121?

2 [fn]Far ^G3361 from ^G3361 it! How ^G4459 shall we who ^G3748 died ^G599 to sin ^G266 still ^G2089 live ^G2198 in it? 3 Or ^G2228 do you not know ^G50 that all ^G3745 of us who ^G3745 have been baptized ^G907 into Christ ^G5547 Jesus ^G2424 have been baptized ^G907 into His death ^G2288? 4 Therefore ^G3767 we have been buried ^G4916 with Him through ^G1223 baptism ^G908 into death ^G2288, so ^G2443 that ^G2443, just ^G5618 as Christ ^G5547 was raised ^G1453 from the dead ^G3498 through ^G1223 the glory ^G1391 of the Father ^G3962, so ^G3779 we too ^G2532 may walk ^G4043 in newness ^G2538 of life ^G2222. 5 For if ^G1487 we have become ^G1096 [fn]united ^G4854 with Him in the likeness ^G3667 of His death ^G2288, certainly ^G235 we shall also ^G2532 be [fn]in the likeness of His resurrection ^G386, 6 knowing ^G1097 this ^G3778, that our old ^G3820 [fn]self ^G444 was crucified ^G4957 with Him, in ^G2443 order ^G2443 that ^G2443 our body ^G4983 of sin ^G266 might be [fn]done ^G2673 away ^G2673 with ^G2673, so that we would no ^G3371 longer ^G3371 be slaves ^G1398 to sin ^G266; 7 for the one who has died ^G599 is [fn]freed ^G1344 from sin ^G266.

8 Now ^G1161 if ^G1487 we have died ^G599 with Christ ^G5547, we believe ^G4100 that we shall also ^G2532 live ^G4800 with Him, 9 knowing ^G6063 that Christ ^G5547, having been raised ^G1453 from the dead ^G3498, [fn]is never ^G3765 to die ^G599 again ^G3765; death ^G2288 no ^G3765 longer ^G3765 is master ^G2961 over ^G2961 Him. 10 For [fn]the death that He died ^G599, He died ^G599 to sin ^G266 once ^G2178 for ^G2178 all ^G2178 time; but [fn]the life that He lives ^G2198, He lives ^G2198 to [fn]God ^G2316. 11 So ^G3779 you too ^G2532, consider ^G3049 yourselves ^G1438 to be dead ^G3498 to sin ^G266, but alive ^G2198 to God ^G2316 in Christ ^G5547 Jesus ^G2424.

12 Therefore ^G3767 sin ^G266 is not to reign ^G936 in your mortal ^G2349 body ^G4983 so ^G1519 that ^G1519 you obey ^G5219 its lusts ^G1939, 13 and do not go on presenting ^G3936 [fn]the parts ^G3196 of your body to sin ^G266 as [fn]instruments ^G3696 of unrighteousness ^G93; but present ^G3936 yourselves ^G1438 to God ^G2316 as those who are ^G2198 alive ^G2198 from the dead ^G3498, and [fn]your body’s parts ^G3196 as [fn]instruments ^G3696 of righteousness ^G1343 for God ^G2316. 14 For sin ^G266 shall not be master ^G2961 over ^G2961 you, for you are not under ^G5259 [fn]the Law ^G3551 but under ^G5259 grace ^G5485.

15 What ^G5101 then ^G3767? Are we to sin ^G264 because ^G3754 we are not under ^G5259 [fn]the Law ^G3551 but under ^G5259 grace ^G5485? [fn]Far ^G3361 from ^G3361 it! 16 Do you not know ^G6063 that the one to whom ^G3739 you present ^G3936 yourselves ^G1438 as slaves ^G1401 for obedience ^G5218, you are slaves ^G1401 of that same one whom ^G3739 you obey ^G5219, either ^G2273 of sin ^G266 [fn]resulting ^G1519 in ^G1519 death ^G2288, or ^G2228 of obedience ^G5218 [fn]resulting ^G1519 in ^G1519 righteousness ^G1343? 17 But thanks ^G5485 be to God ^G2316 that [fn]though you were slaves ^G1401 of sin ^G266, you became ^G5219 obedient ^G5219 from the heart ^G2588 to that [fn]form ^G5179 of teaching ^G1322 to which ^G3739 you were entrusted ^G3860, 18 and after being freed ^G1659 from sin ^G266, you became ^G1402 slaves ^G1402 to righteousness ^G1343. 19 I am speaking ^G3004 [fn]in ^G442 human ^G442 terms ^G442 because ^G1223 of the weakness ^G769 of your flesh ^G4561. For just ^G5618 as you presented ^G3936 [fn]the parts ^G3196 of your body as slaves ^G1400 to impurity ^G167 and to lawlessness ^G458, [fn]resulting ^G1519 in ^G1519 further lawlessness ^G458, so ^G3779 now ^G3568 present ^G3936 [fn]your body’s parts ^G3196 as slaves ^G1400 to righteousness ^G1343, [fn]resulting ^G1519 in ^G1519 sanctification ^G38.

20 For when ^G3753 you were slaves ^G1401 of sin ^G266, you were free ^G1658 in relation to righteousness ^G1343. 21 Therefore ^G3767 what ^G5101 [fn]benefit ^G2590 were you then ^G5119 [fn]deriving ^G2192 from the things of which ^G3739 you are ^G1870 now ^G3568 ashamed ^G1870? For the outcome ^G5056 of those ^G1565 things ^G1565 is death ^G2288. 22 But now ^G3570 having been freed ^G1659 from sin ^G266 and enslaved ^G1402 to God ^G2316, you [fn]derive ^G2192 your [fn]benefit ^G2590, [fn]resulting ^G1519 in ^G1519 sanctification ^G38, and the outcome ^G5056, eternal ^G166 life ^G2222. 23 For the wages ^G3800 of sin ^G266 is death ^G2288, but the gracious ^G5486 gift ^G5486 of God ^G2316 is eternal ^G166 life ^G2222 in Christ ^G5547 Jesus ^G2424 our Lord ^G2962.
