properly denotes "an offspring;" then, "a family;" then, "a race, nation;" otherwise, "a kind or species;" it is translated "countrymen," in 2Cr 11:26, in Paul's reference to his fellow-nationals; so in Gal 1:14, RV, for AV, "nation."

lit., "a fellow-tribesman" (sun, "with," phule, "a tribe, race, nation, people"), hence, one who is of the same people, a fellow-countryman, is found in 1Th 2:14.
