1 Strong's Number: g2165 Greek: euphraino

Fare, Farewell:

in the Active Voice, signifies "to cheer, gladden," 2Cr 2:2; in the Passive, "to rejoice, make merry;" translated "faring sumptuously" in Luk 16:19, especially of food (RV, marg., "living in mirth and splendor").

2 Strong's Number: g4517 Greek: rhonnumi

Fare, Farewell:

"to strengthen, to be strong," is used in the imperative mood as a formula at the end of letters, signifying "Farewell," Act 15:29; some mss. have it in Act 23:30 (the RV omits it, as do most versions).

3 Strong's Number: g2192 Greek: echo

Fare, Farewell:

"to have," is used idiomatically in Act 15:36, RV, "(how) they fare," AV, "how they do."

4 Strong's Number: g5463 Greek: chairo

Fare, Farewell:

"to joy, rejoice, be glad," is used in the imperative mood in salutations,

(a) on meeting, "Hail," e.g., Mat 26:49; or with lego, "to say, to give a greeting," 2Jo 1:11; in letters; "greeting," e.g., Act 15:23;

(b) at parting, the underlying thought being joy, 2Cr 13:11 (RV, marg., "rejoice");

(c) on other occasions, see the RV marg. in Phl 3:1; 4:4.

Note: As "farewell" is inadequate to express chairo, which always conveys the thought of joy or cheer, (b) properly comes under (c).

5 Strong's Number: g657 Greek: apotasso

Fare, Farewell:

primarily denotes "to set apart;" then, in the Middle Voice,

(a) "to take leave of, bid farewell to," Mar 6:46, "had taken leave of;" cp. Act 18:18, 21; 2Cr 2:13 (in these three verses, the verb may signify to give final instructions to); Luk 9:61, "to bid farewell;"

(b) "to forsake," Luk 14:33. In the papyri, besides saying goodbye, the stronger meaning is found of getting rid of a person (Moulton and Milligan).
