Five, Five Times:
is derived by some from words suggesting the fingers of a hand, or a fist. The word is frequent in the Gospels. Pentakis, "five times," is found in 2Cr 11:24; pentakosioi, "five hundred," in Luk 7:41; 1Cr 15:6; pentakischilioi, "five thousand" (chilios, "a thousand"), in Mat 14:21; 16:9 and corresponding passages.
See FIFTEENTH, FIFTH, FIFTY.
The Blue Letter Bible ministry and the BLB Institute hold to the historical, conservative Christian faith, which includes a firm belief in the inerrancy of Scripture. Since the text and audio content provided by BLB represent a range of evangelical traditions, all of the ideas and principles conveyed in the resource materials are not necessarily affirmed, in total, by this ministry.
