Flame, Flaming:
akin to Lat. fulgeo, "to shine," is used apart from pur, "fire," in Luk 16:24; with pur, it signifies "a fiery flame," lit., "a flame of fire," Act 7:30; 2Th 1:8, where the fire is to be understood as the instrument of Divine judgment; Hbr 1:7, where the meaning probably is that God makes His angels as active and powerful as a "flame" of fire; in Rev 1:14; 2:18; 19:12, of the eyes of the Lord Jesus as emblematic of penetrating judgment, searching out evil.
The Blue Letter Bible ministry and the BLB Institute hold to the historical, conservative Christian faith, which includes a firm belief in the inerrancy of Scripture. Since the text and audio content provided by BLB represent a range of evangelical traditions, all of the ideas and principles conveyed in the resource materials are not necessarily affirmed, in total, by this ministry.
