1 | Strong's Number: g5479 | Greek: chara |
Gladness:
"joy, delight" (akin to A, No. 1 above), is rendered "gladness" in the AV of Mar 4:16; Act 12:14; Phl 2:29 (RV "joy," as elsewhere in both versions).
See JOY.
2 | Strong's Number: g20 | Greek: agalliasis |
Gladness:
"exultation, exuberant joy" (akin to A, No. 2), is translated "gladness" in Luk 1:14; Act 2:6; Hbr 1:9; "joy" in Luk 1:44; "exceeding joy" in Jud 1:24. It indicates a more exultant "joy" than No. 1. In the Sept. this word is found chiefly in the Psalms, where it denotes "joy" in God's redemptive work, e.g., Psa 30:5; 42:4; 45:7, 15.
See JOY.

The Blue Letter Bible ministry and the BLB Institute hold to the historical, conservative Christian faith, which includes a firm belief in the inerrancy of Scripture. Since the text and audio content provided by BLB represent a range of evangelical traditions, all of the ideas and principles conveyed in the resource materials are not necessarily affirmed, in total, by this ministry.
