Reproof, Reprove:
"a reproof" (akin to B), is found in the best texts in 2Ti 3:16 (some mss. have elenchos, which denotes "a proof, proving, test," as in Hbr 11:1, "proving," RV marg., "test"). Cp. elenxis, "rebuke," 2Pe 2:16 (lit., "had rebuke").
B-1 | Verb | Strong's Number: g1651 | Greek: elencho |
Reproof, Reprove:
"to convict, rebuke, reprove," is translated "to reprove" in Luk 3:19; Jhn 3:20, RV marg., "convicted;" the real meaning here is "exposed" (AV marg., "discovered"); Eph 5:11, 13, where "to expose" is again the significance; in Jhn 16:8, AV, "will reprove" (RV, "will convict"); in 1Cr 14:24, RV, "reproved" (AV, "convinced"); in the following the RV has "to reprove," for AV, "to rebuke," 1Ti 5:20; Tts 2:15; Hbr 12:5; Rev 3:19; for synonymous words see CONVICT and REBUKE.
The Blue Letter Bible ministry and the BLB Institute hold to the historical, conservative Christian faith, which includes a firm belief in the inerrancy of Scripture. Since the text and audio content provided by BLB represent a range of evangelical traditions, all of the ideas and principles conveyed in the resource materials are not necessarily affirmed, in total, by this ministry.
