Rocky:
"rock-like" (petra, "a rock," eidos, "a form, appearance"), is used of "rock" underlying shallow soil, Mat 13:5, 20, RV, "the rocky places" (AV, "stony places"); Mar 4:5, RV, "the rocky ground" (AV, "stony ground"); Mar 4:16, RV, "rocky places" (AV, "stony ground").
Note: In Act 27:29, AV, the phrase tracheis topoi, lit., "rough places," is translated "rocks" (RV, "rocky ground").
The Blue Letter Bible ministry and the BLB Institute hold to the historical, conservative Christian faith, which includes a firm belief in the inerrancy of Scripture. Since the text and audio content provided by BLB represent a range of evangelical traditions, all of the ideas and principles conveyed in the resource materials are not necessarily affirmed, in total, by this ministry.
