Scoff:
"to hold up the nose in derision at" (ek, "from," used intensively, mukterizo, "to mock;" from mukter, "the nose"), is translated "scoffed at" in Luk 16:14, RV (AV, "derided"), of the Pharisees in their derision of Christ on account of His teaching; in Luk 23:35 (ditto), of the mockery of Christ on the Cross by the rulers of the people. In the Sept., Psa 2:4; 22:7; 35:16.
The Blue Letter Bible ministry and the BLB Institute hold to the historical, conservative Christian faith, which includes a firm belief in the inerrancy of Scripture. Since the text and audio content provided by BLB represent a range of evangelical traditions, all of the ideas and principles conveyed in the resource materials are not necessarily affirmed, in total, by this ministry.
