Self, Selves:
"he," also means "self," in the reflexive pronouns "myself, thyself, himself," etc. (see, e.g., HE), expressing distinction, exclusion, etc.; it is usually emphatic in the nominative case, e.g., Luk 6:42; 11:4; Jhn 18:28; Rom 8:16, RV, "Himself."
Note: In Jhn 16:27, "the Father Himself (autos)," Field (Notes on the Translation of the NT) remarks that autos stands for automatos.
The Blue Letter Bible ministry and the BLB Institute hold to the historical, conservative Christian faith, which includes a firm belief in the inerrancy of Scripture. Since the text and audio content provided by BLB represent a range of evangelical traditions, all of the ideas and principles conveyed in the resource materials are not necessarily affirmed, in total, by this ministry.
