Torment (Noun and Verb):

akin to basanizo (see TOIL, No. 2), is used of Divine judgments in Rev 9:5; 14:11; 18:7, 10, 15.

primarily "a touchstone," employed in testing metals, hence, "torment," is used

(a) of physical diseases, Mat 4:24;

(b) of a condition of retribution in Hades Luk 16:23, 28.
