1 Strong's Number: g177 Greek: akatakaluptos

Unveiled:

"uncovered" (a, negative, katakalupto, "to cover"), is used in 1Cr 11:5, 13, RV, "unveiled," with reference to the injunction forbidding women to be "unveiled" in a church gathering. Whatever the character of the covering, it is to be on her head as "a sign of authority" (1Cr 11:10), RV, the meaning of which is indicated in 1Cr 11:3 in the matter of headships, and the reasons for which are given in 1Cr 11:7-9, and in the phrase "because of the angels," intimating their witness of, and interest in, that which betokens the headship of Christ. The injunctions were neither Jewish, which required men to be veiled in prayer, nor Greek, by which men and women were alike "unveiled." The Apostle's instructions were "the commandment of the Lord" (1Cr 14:37) and were for all the churches (1Cr 14:33, 34).

Note: For the verb anakalupto, rendered "unveiled" in 2Cr 3:18, RV, see UNLIFTED (2nd ref.).
