"TEPID WON'T DO."
I. THE DANGER OF THE LUKEWARM STATE.
A. It is unpalatable.
1. I am a milk drinker. I love a cold glass of milk, sometimes a hot cup.
2. One way I can't stand milk, lukewarm.
B. "I would that you were cold or hot."
1. The man with no reaction is the hardest to reach, the farthest away.
2. Even those with strong neg. reactions are closer.
C. Lukewarm Christianity is detestable.
1. No good in the world. you have enough of Christ to make you miserable, not enough to make you joyous.
2. No good to Christ.
a. Worse, you are a detriment because you claim Christianity. People who don't know any better look at you as an example, and are driven away.
D. Jesus said, "I will spew you out of My mouth."
1. He is saying that He wants all or nothing at all.
2. True Christianity demands complete commitment.
II. THE CAUSES OF THE LUKEWARM STATE.
A. Because thou sayest "I am rich and increased with goods and have need of nothing."
1. They had begun to put their trust in riches rather than God.
a. "How hard it is for those who put their trust in riches..."
b. Jesus spoke of the deceitfulness of riches as one of the thorns choking fruitfulness.
2. Their interest were divided between the material things and spiritual things.
a. Lukewarm is a mixture.
b. Seeking to mix a life of materialism with a spiritual life results in lukewarm.
B. Sad, but they were unconscious of their true state, "And knowest not..."
1. Because they still attended church.
2. Could still speak the spiritual jargon, sing hymns.
3. Your body may be here today. Where is your heart?
4. What is your spirit temperature?
III. THE ANSWER TO THE LUKEWARM STATE.
A. Look to Jesus for all things.
B. Be zealous.
C. Repent.
D. Open the door.
1. "Behold I stand at the door..."
2. He desires full communion with you.
a. "I will come in and sup." What is your reaction? Is their none?
