Food for Faith — Appendix A

Note. Though a formal Bible study is not absolutely vital every day, a daily Together Time is imperative for your spiritual growth.

Bible Study

Here are some questions for you to ask in relation to the Bible passages you will read, so that you will truly have a rewarding formal Bible Study:

  • Of whom is the passage speaking?
  • To whom is the passage directed?
  • What specific words does the writer use?
  • At what time was the passage written?
  • From where was the passage written?
  • For what purpose was the passage written?
  • In what situation was the passage written?
  • How does the passage fit into what goes before it and what follows it?

Be diligent to present yourself approved to God as a workman who does not need to be ashamed, handling accurately the word of truth (2 Timothy 2:15 NASB).

Food for Faith — Appendix B

Together Time

Here are some questions for you to ask as you meditate on each verse in your daily reading of the Scripture:

Is there in this verse a:

  • Sin to avoid?
  • Warning to heed?
  • Command to obey?
  • Good example to follow?
  • Bad example to shun?
  • New thought about God the Father?
  • New thought about God the Son?
  • New thought about God the Holy Spirit?
  • Fresh insight into the person of Satan?
  • Fresh insight into Satan’s cruel goals?
  • Fresh insight into Satan’s subtle devices?

But be ye doers of the word and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves. But whosoever looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth in it, he being not a forgetful hearer but a doer of the word, this man shall be blessed in his deed (James 1:22, 25 KJV).

Food for Faith — Appendix C

To help my wife Dorothy and me in our daily intercessory prayer, we have sought to follow the daily sequence which was first suggested by Evangelist Thomas B. Rees just after I was converted to Christ over 50 years ago. M for Monday; M for missionaries and so on.

Having already fed our souls on God’s word and prayed it from head to heart, supplicatory prayer becomes vitalized. Instead of a perfunctory daily routine, supplication for others becomes a protracted and fresh time of thanksgiving, intercession and concern for them. Though we do not have a documented list of prayer concerns in this way, we trust the Holy Spirit to expand our prayer time to embrace all immediate prayer needs whatever they may be.

Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God (Phil. 4:6 NKJV).

Note: The following Daily Prayer Guide does not exclude praying for concerns of a personal nature or that may arise on a daily basis.

Monday Missionaries: Missionaries in whose ministries God has interested and involved us.

Tuesday Thanksgiving: Specifically a time of thanksgiving and worship for all He is; all He has done, for all that He will do and for all that He has given.

Wednesday Workers: Pastors; Evangelists; Bible Teachers and Christian Workers.

Thursday Tasks: Domestic responsibilities; ministerial duties, financial obligations etc.

Friday Family: Our own small family and the much larger family of our relatives together with those who have endeared themselves to Dorothy and me as our own children and grandchildren in Christ.

Saturday Sinners: The ministry of Your Quest for God around the world; people whom we have met on the street and witnessed to, and family members outside of Christ, etc.

Sunday Saints: Those people of whom we are aware who have recently found the Savior; Prayer Partners through whom God has enriched our lives; the Persecuted Church—about which we diligently seek detailed information and, Revival in the Church today.

The Blue Letter Bible ministry and the BLB Institute hold to the historical, conservative Christian faith, which includes a firm belief in the inerrancy of Scripture. Since the text and audio content provided by BLB represent a range of evangelical traditions, all of the ideas and principles conveyed in the resource materials are not necessarily affirmed, in total, by this ministry.
