  2. The Practice and Purpose of Your Faith and Salvation (1Pe 1:13-2:12)

          2. Redeemed from slavery to sin (1Pe 1:18b)
          3. Redeemed by the life-blood of the sinless Christ (1Pe 1:19)
        2. He has given you faith and hope (1Pe 1:20-21)
          1. Based on an eternal plan of redemption (1Pe 1:20a)
          2. Through the incarnation of God for you (1Pe 1:20b)
          3. Because of the resurrection and ascension of Christ (1Pe 1:21)
    4. Your salvation calls you to love the brethren (1Pe 1:22-25)
      1. The prerequisite of love for the brethren: Obedience to the soul-cleansing truth of God’s Word (1Pe 1:22a)
      2. The manner of love for the brethren (1Pe 1:22b)
        1. Unhypocritical, brother-love/affectionate love
        2. Fervent, sacrificial love from the heart
      3. The reasons for love of the brethren (1Pe 1:22-25)
        1. Because we are commanded to (1Pe 1:22)
        2. Because we share the same eternal life-blood/new birth (1Pe 1:23-25)
          1. We have the same life-giving, imperishable seed, which is the source of our new birth (1Pe 1:23a)
          2. We were made alive through the same living and abiding Word of God, which is the means of our new birth (1Pe 1:23-25)
            1. Scripture says that everything else is temporal (1Pe 1:24)

    6. Your salvation calls you to a new purpose: The worship of God (1Pe 2:4-10)
      1. Worship Part I: Being built up as a new temple, for new priesthood and new sacrifices (1Pe 2:4-8)
        1. Worship because of who you are in Christ (1Pe 2:4-8)
          1. Those who come to Christ as the only living, God-ordained foundation (1Pe 2:4)
          2. Those who are living stones, in a new temple, with a new priesthood, and new sacrifices (1Pe 2:5)
          3. Those who are believers in Christ as the predicted cornerstone (1Pe 2:6)
          4. Those who are in contrast to disobedient, stumbling, rejecters (1Pe 2:7-8)
        2. Worship because of what God has accomplished for us in Christ (1Pe 2:4-8)
          1. God has made your worship acceptable to Him through Christ (1Pe 2:4-5)
          2. God has guaranteed no shame or disappointment for believers in Christ (1Pe 2:6)
          3. God has given you the only sure foundation to build your life upon (1Pe 2:7)
      2. Worship because God in Christ is supremely worthy (1Pe 2:4-8)
        1. Christ is alive from the dead (1Pe 2:4a)
        2. Christ is elect and precious in God’s sight (1Pe 2:4b)
