A. Before she met Christ, her life was hopeless.
1. She had more than just the normal problems that sinners have.
2. A sinner's life is a miserable lot.
a. No thrill at the awareness of God's presence.
b. Can't face world, problems, without panic.
c. Always thirsting.
d. No hope beyond grave.
1. Death is final.
2. Our loved one's gone.
3. Life is cruel and unjust, an innocent child dies, an aged reprobate lives on.
4. That's it! It's all over! At least they hope so.
3. Mary also possessed by seven demons.
a. Driven, tortured, tormented by these diabolical spirits.
B. One day Mary met Jesus.
1. The how's and where's, we do not know.
2. Jesus cast these seven devils out of Mary.
a. He set her free from these forces of hell that had controlled her.
b. He loosed her from her prison of sin.
c. He brought hope, joy, and peace into her life.
d. He filled her empty cup to overflowing.
e. Life now seemed so beautiful, meaningful.
C. A conspiracy grows.
1. Jesus has stirred hatred against Himself by His honesty.
a. He tore the mask off religion and exposed the hypocrisy within.
b. He laid bare the hidden things.
2. These conspirators finally catch Him in the garden.
a. Jesus submits to them.
1. He could have called 10,000 angels.
b. They led Him to a mock trial before a high priest.
c. Then before Pilate for death penalty.
d. Grief stricken Mary finally watched in horror as they nailed Him to a cross and lifted Him up.
1. Mary stood by to the end.
2. When lifeless form removed, she was there.
D. She now comes to the tomb, it is early in the morning, still dark.
1. The stone is rolled away!
a. One of two possibilities: Jews removed Him or grave robbers.
b. She ran to inform Peter and John.
2. They did outrun her back to the sepulcher.
a. They saw the linen clothes lying and left.
3. Mary, filled with grief, began to weep.
a. She looked into the sepulcher.
4. "Women, why weepest thou?" "They have taken away my Lord and I know not where they have laid Him."
a. He was still her Lord.
b. Weep over condition of church today.
5. She turned with tear-filled eyes and failed to recognize Jesus standing nearby. "Woman, why weepest thou?"
a. Day of victory, triumph, joy.
b. O, the cruelty of unbelief.
c. It would have us weeping when we should be "rejoicing."
6. The strength of love, "I will take Him away."
7. "Mary," "Rabboni"
8. "Touch me not."
9. The first witness of the resurrection.
