但以理、哈拿尼雅、米沙利和亚撒利雅的故事与犹大人民截然相反。但以理和他的同伙遵循并服从上帝的诫命。正因为如此，上帝赐福给他们，保护他们免受敌人的侵害。但犹大人民-即使在耶利米警告他们，如果他们继续下去，巴比伦人就会征服他们之后，他们仍然选择不服从上帝-继续走反叛之路。
即使面临诱惑和死亡的威胁，但以理、哈拿尼雅、米沙利和亚撒利雅仍然遵循上帝的诫命。
