但以理最后也是最详细的异象出现在第 10-12 章中。在第 2 章中，我们看到但以理解释了给尼布甲尼撒王的异象。但以理得到的前两个异象是在巴比伦国王伯沙撒统治期间（但以理书 7-8 章）。第三个异象发生在波斯征服巴比伦之后，大流士统治的第一年（但以理书 9 章）。最后一个异象出现在波斯王居鲁士在位的第三年。一些学者认为居鲁士和大流士是同一个人；另一些人则认为大流士只是巴比伦城的一位总督，但以理被驱逐出以色列后就住在那里。
