上帝主宰着世间万事，沙得拉、米煞和亚伯尼歌忠于上帝，而不是尼布甲尼撒的偶像崇拜。但他们并不假装代表上帝说话或知道会发生什么，他们说，即使上帝不拯救他们，国王也应该明白，沙得拉、米煞和亚伯尼歌不会侍奉他的神，也不会崇拜尼布甲尼撒建造的金像。这表达了他们的信心，即使死了，他们也会得到拯救。这表明他们积极相信死后的生活。他们相信上帝，为正义而殉道比仅仅活得更长有更大的回报。
