尼布甲尼撒王又做了一个令他心烦意乱的梦，他的智者们无法解释。他一直在讲述他的梦境。他看见一棵大树，美丽、高大、健康，为许多动物提供了食物。现在他将了解这棵树的命运。
天使大声呼喊，对尼布甲尼撒说话。他告诉尼布甲尼撒看到的那棵硕大茂盛的树会发生什么：砍倒这棵树，砍掉它的树枝，剥去它的叶子，散落它的果实；让野兽从树下逃走，让鸟儿从树枝上飞走。虽然这棵树将被摧毁，不再为鸟兽提供食物，但树桩将留在地里，但周围要用铁和铜环绕，环绕在田野的新草中。
