亚伦向摩西所做回答的最后一部分貌似是纯属虚构。他告诉摩西，他将金环扔在火中之后，这牛犊便出来了。这里的措辞暗示有神迹发生，即亚伦将许多金子扔在火中，一头完整的铸造牛犊偶像就奇迹般地从火中跳了出来。或许亚伦将这牛犊归因于耶和华的作为。若是这样，这就成了一长串耶和华神迹列表中最新的一个神迹，从埃及的十灾开始、过红海、吗哪的每日供应，等等。
事实上，在理当更明白的情况下，亚伦却选择了支持百姓拜偶像的行为。他主动地参与，用人手造成的工具，将金子铸造成牛犊的形象。
令人惊奇的是，摩西并没有向他的哥哥宣布审判，而是为他祈求想要杀他的耶和华。
