准备建造帐幕的下一个主题是收集材料。摩西直接对以色列全会众说，而非对祭司说。他告诉他们耶和华所吩咐的是这样：你们中间要拿礼物献给耶和华。礼物一词 (希伯来文 "terumah" ) 与动词 "rum" 相关，意为 "举起"，其含义是 "所举起之物" 或 "奉献"。
这种 "奉献" 不应视为一种义务，而是由凡乐意献的人所献；慷慨的人就可以拿耶和华的礼物来。
所收集的物品几乎与出埃及记 25:3-7 所列的一样，在那里神指示摩西收集这些物品，为要获取建造帐幕和其设备的必要材料。
其中许多物品是在以色列人出埃及时，埃及人给他们的 (出埃及记 12:35)。
