第一章的整个最后部分，保罗一再向他的听众解释他是如何不是从人而是从神领受他的权柄或福音的。
保罗只和首席使徒彼得（矶法）待了十五天，在耶路撒冷的时候除了主的兄弟雅各（他是耶路撒冷教会的首席长老）之外也没有看见任何别的主要权威。关键是：耶稣在保罗去往大马士革的路上与他说话后至少三年间，保罗没有与使徒相见。他在给听众建立他作为使徒的权柄，以及他在传的福音信息不是从人（甚至不是从使徒）而是从神、通过神的启示赐给他的。
在保罗写给加拉太人信的下一章，他指责彼得陷入律法主义并曲解福音。保罗可以做到这一点，是因为他的权柄不是从彼得给的，所教导给他的好消息也不是从彼得或耶稣最初的十二使徒的其他人或教会长老来的。这福音是从神告诉他的，任何人甚至是彼得都不可以更改这好消息：即基督为救我们而为我们的罪去死，随后从死里复活，所有都是照着神的旨意。保罗传讲了神关于相信祂儿子的好消息，而不是在律法的作工里，为了我们在祂面前完全的义。
