保罗随后指出律法和信心是分离的，因为如果你实践律法，认为它会建立在神面前的义，那么你就是凭律法生活，而不是凭信心生活。
但基督在十字架上为我们的献祭-他的死去、埋葬和复活-赎出我们脱离律法的咒诅。耶稣被挂在木质十字架上，木头上，且蒙受了申命记21:23中所写的咒诅：凡挂在木头上都是被咒诅的。藉着死在十字架上，耶稣为我们受了咒诅，并赎出我们脱离律法的咒诅。律法要求在它之下的所有人都必须一直遵守它，即使曾犯过一个错误，他们也受了咒诅。然而，在十字架上，基督却将这咒诅背负在他自己身上，代替我们牺牲了自己。
然后，保罗将耶稣与亚伯拉罕联系起来。耶稣不仅是亚伯拉罕肉身的后代，也是神对亚伯拉罕应许的应验：万国都必因他得福。亚伯拉罕的福，因基督耶稣可以临到外邦人，因为藉着信心我们都可以获得在神面前的义。
