神继续将秩序和平衡带给自然。第二天被分开的诸水和空气，在这天被它们相应的栖息动物所充满。神看见祂所创造的一切海中之物和空中之物都是好的，就赐福给它们，说："滋生繁多。"换句话说，就是多多生产并使数量繁多。神以接下来第六天中所需要的一切填满了地，结束了创造的第五天。
这里值得注意的是，神创造了不同的"类"。在自然中可以观察到的是，在"类"中有极好的多样性。然而，在不同类之间不会被观察到"杂交"。有许多种或许多类的狗，它们的血缘关系可以明显地被追踪到。但我们从来不会认为狗会生出猫。当神在挪亚洪水中保存陆栖动物免于毁灭时，这一点变得非常重要。那个时候，神保存了每"类"的两只。
