亚伯拉罕对上帝表现出谦卑和敬畏。他两次请求上帝不要对他生气（第 30、32 节）。他谦卑地表示自己不配如此直接地质问上帝（第 27 节）。上帝当然知道有多少义人。但他没有向亚伯拉罕透露这一点。他允许亚伯拉罕代求，并在所多玛的结局中发挥作用。通过让亚伯拉罕参与进来，上帝在教导他，并给他一个教训，让他可以传授给他的后代。
