这让我们想起了亚伯拉罕为罗得和他的家人代祷（创世记 18:20-33），当时亚伯拉罕……来到他站在耶和华面前的地方，向下望去，望向所多玛和蛾摩拉。从幔利，亚伯拉罕可以看到那地烟气上腾，像烧窑一般（以赛亚书 9:18；出埃及记 19:18；启示录 9:2）。显然，亚伯拉罕的代祷并没有拯救这座城市，因为城里没有 10 个义人。看来罗得是唯一一个。
上帝记得亚伯拉罕，在罗得所住的城市被毁时，他差遣罗得离开。上帝拯救了罗得，因为他是义人，也因为亚伯拉罕的代祷。但由于找不到十个义人，这座城市就被摧毁了。这支持了一个普遍原则，即只要有一点正义的影响，上帝就足以免除审判。这个原则出现了很多次，比如在约拿的故事中，上帝想要保全尼尼微。我们在创世记中看到了这一点，当时上帝推迟审判亚摩利人，因为他们的罪孽还没有满盈（创世记 15:16）。
