拉麦的妻子亚大生了两个儿子，雅八和犹八。雅八成为游牧牧民。他统治动物并征服土地。犹八成为音乐家。洗拉生了一儿一女。男孩叫土八该隐，女孩叫拿玛。土八该隐成为金属工匠。通过该隐的后代，人类开始统治万物。
拉麦是一个骄傲自大的人，他对妻子说的话表明他是个杀人犯。他杀死了一个伤害他的男人，还杀死了一个打伤他的男孩。他想要对伤害他的人进行比该隐更大的报复。这些经文描绘了一个没有上帝的社会，追求享乐，不顾人类的生命。这是地球开始充满暴力的开始（创世记 6:11），也是上帝用洪水审判地球的原因。相比之下，我们看到亚当和夏娃有了新儿子塞特，人类开始呼唤上帝。

有趣的是，青铜和铁等技术很早就成为社会的一部分。洪水之前的人类文明发展迅速。似乎在友好而肥沃的环境、长寿、健康和高智商的推动下，人类将精力转向了两个目标，一个好，一个坏：征服地球并通过暴力征服彼此。我们很快就会看到，上帝将审判地球，使地球的环境变得更加恶劣，寿命大大缩短，人们分散，也许是为了最大限度地减少他们相互施暴的能量。
