诺亚在下雨前七天进入方舟（创世记 7:4,10）。大雨下了四十昼夜（创世记 7:12）。洪水泛滥了 150 天（创世记 7:24；8:3）。在第 8 章 15-16 节中，上帝说他们可以走出方舟。创世记 7:11 告诉我们，在诺亚六百岁那年，也就是第二月的第十七天，同一天，大渊的所有泉源都裂开了。现在，在诺亚生命的第二月，也就是第二十七天，大地干涸了。诺亚和他的家人在方舟上度过了一年多的时间。请注意日期的精确性。很明显，其中一个信息是，这不是一个寓言，而是一个真实的历史记载。
