这节经文的最后部分强调了领袖们决定停止他们眼前的计划： “于是他们离开他走了。” 他们只能沉思耶稣尖锐的话语，却没有采取直接行动。这种紧张关系预示着耶稣受难时将要展开的最终冲突（路加福音23:33）。耶稣与宗教腐败的对抗威胁着当权者，但他的使命将不顾反对，不断推进神的国度。
